    1. Simply beautiful. We do need to start locking George up when people are trying to be clever, though. 🙂

  1. One thing I don’t understand: if dissent helps bring to light blatantly illegal actions a la Schaap’s, which are blatantly against not only civil law but the Gospel of Christ, why “speak it not”?

    1. People “speak it not” because they are afraid. I worked at two fundamentalist colleges in Minnesota and Wisconsin from 1976-81. People were afraid to find out the truth. When they did, they had to grapple with what to do. If they kept the truth to themselves, they could survive. If they shared the truth, they would be accused of gossip, and often these people would disappear. This happened at Pillsbury two years after I left. About a third of the faculty were either fired or left on their own. It left the school a mess. A significant number of students left the school, and the school later died in 2008 because the scenario was repeated at least once more a little over a decade later. However, the “truth” was preserved, at the cost of how many crushed souls. Where I work now, we have tenure and a strong union. Both have protected a number of people who have spoken up when they see something wrong.

  2. Drat, my plans to get a sfl t-shirt for free are once again thwarted by being Canadian….
