This is all painfully familiar, right down to the “My bad” from the pianist who, bless her heart, has no idea what she’s doing, but she’s DOIN’ IT FOR THE LORD. As if the Lord didn’t demand the best in the Bible.
Gotta love that growing industry of praise & worship music celebrating the King James Bible! Not that I haven’t participated in such in my day. I sang a quartet at camp in front of the king of the King James Onlyists–Ruckman himself! http://capthk.wordpress.com/2007/01/19/the-old-king-james/
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that 90% of that song is actually pretty good, if it refers to just the Bible in general and not a particular translation. However, I’m going to go out on less of a limb and say that he was probably singing about the KJV.
“The B-I-B-L-E!
Yes, that’s the Book for me!
I stand alone on the…”
What comes next? If you said “Word of God” – WRONG:
“…I stand alone on the KJV,
The B-I-B-L-E! BIBLE!!!!”
I have heard that sung. In church, and not children’s church, either. The main service.

……uh
Ouch. That was painfully bad. AMEN!
Careful with the criticism Jordan. We’ve sung in choir together, as I recall. Thought not quite with this many “Amens” perhaps…
I’m the soul of caution, Bean–I did say that this was “painfully familiar,” didn’t I?
Is there a melody somewhere in that song?
I think I know the blond guy sitting behind the singer!

Wow, Paul. Incredibly accurate description of KJVOism.
I used to go to church with this guy in Glen Burnie, MD. His name is Tim Lee. I think he’s somewhere in Michigan now.
