    1. That guy with the little stache is an imposter! No self-respecting youth camp meetin’ Mog would be caught dead without the hyper-extended bread basket and suspenders.

Now Hermann Göring, that’s another story.

  1. It reminds me of Harold Sightler’s Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.

At least that’s what I heard it was like. It’s foreign to me.

They certainly must have an AED or two on hand for the 2,000 meter relays around the “sanctuary.”

And what is it about forty years worth of gluttony that is something to be so dog-gonned proud about? Seriously? Two Mogs standing side-by-side sporting guts extended beyond normal and reasonable distances outside expected human fulcrum parameters.

    1. I visited Tabernacle Baptist, aka “Happynacle” on many occasions in the mid 1970s. Not because I was blessed, but it was one helluva spectacle.

      1. HappyNacle?! HAHA!! I don’t recall ever hearing that.

I remember when “Dr.” Sightler received his honorary doctorate from BJU. I thought it was circus of strange bedfellows even back then (1990?).

  2. Ahh, yes, the shoutin’ Baptists…a subset of the IFB found mainly down here in the Bible Belt. My fundy church did not start out this way, but when I was 12 or so, we got a new pastor, and he was a big shouter/aisle runner/pew climber. Revivals got really interesting after that, because he would invite the people from the church where he was a member before becoming our pastor. They were all shouters. He was a big fan of Sammy Allen. Eventually, our pastor started questioning the salvation of the non-shouters. The church split shortly thereafter.

    1. Oh yes, those are the ‘quasi-charismatics’ of the IFB movement. Those who (grossly) mislabel emotionalism as ‘spirit-filled’. These are the same ilk who automatically equate “pro wrasslin” like pulpit antics & theatrics as “good preachin” (which is bunk). They also love to say that anyone who has reverance in “God’s House” is ‘cold’/nonspiritual, etc. That was another thing that I began to (really) dislike about the IFB’ers.

  3. Finally watched this to the end. Stupidity. I visited Hyles Anderson College a few years ago, and the students were acting like this, screaming the whole time. I have no problem getting excited and shouting about how Jesus saved me, and how he keeps me, and how he is sovereign over all the pain and suffering in my life and in the lives of those I love. But this was a show. Pure and simple. I don’t doubt that there may be some people in this video who are genuine in their desire to express love and devotion to Christ. I know that when I was a fundy, I tried within that context to truly grow in my love for Christ, but God, in his mercy, opened my eyes to the duplicity, manipulation, lies, control freak methods, and general emptiness of many spiritual lives. And for those like me who were saved in that setting, I pray that God rescues them.

  4. So sad to read these comments, all the feminists and the pseudo-males and rebels trying to tear down Christian men because they were JOYFUL in their worship. These men know a peace and a happiness that most of you will never know. Some of you may come to know it if you would soften your hard hearts and seek forgiveness. But others here heck almost all of you will NEVER know happiness or peace because the Lord has given you over to a reprobate mind. Rom 1:28. It is too late for you and He has washed His hands of you and you will perish while these men of God go to paradise to be with the Father. Who will have the last laugh then?

    1. God has given up on me? Really, Chase?

And the Gospel reading in the liturgical churches this coming Sunday, April 26, is about Jesus the good shepherd, Jesus cares for all his sheep. All of them.

    2. Why would such good Christian men preach a message from a text that has nothing to do with the message? The peace comes from realizing that my life doesn’t have to match up to the parameters these men have invented because and only because being hid in Christ, my life matches up to what God has determined.
These men are caricatures of their leaders. They are Elmer Gantrys preaching to the itching ears of those willing to subject themselves in order to be part of the gnosis and to just be given a list of dos and don’ts in order to be right with God instead of developing a relationship with God.

    3. It is too late for you and He has washed His hands of you and you will perish while these men of God go to paradise to be with the Father. Who will have the last laugh then?

You have any idea how crazy you sound right now? Of course you don’t. I didn’t either when I used to defend these people. I had no problem telling others that they were spending eternity in hell in a casual “matter of fact” kind of way. Of course, it was never without a bit of smugness, in which I would add a similar line at the end, claiming that we would have the last laugh when it all finally happened. Because yes, people in heaven, who are now finally perfect in every way, as God intended them to be, are sitting there, looking at the billions of people burning in hell, having a good laugh.

But what’s the point in telling you all this? I heard the same thing from other people as a response to my “I’m just telling you the truth in love, don’t get mad at me” approach. But then for a moment, I’d begin to wonder if maybe, just maybe this punishment was a little too harsh. “No. No no no no. It isn’t. What Adam and Eve did was bad. Okay, they did it, but no one else did, why are we getting punished so harshly for it? No no. Just shut up. Stop asking these questions. It’s explained it he Bible, this applies to all mankind. Besides, God is awesome. He provided a way out. How much more loving can you be? He can’t just hand it out for free, people have to choose it.” And on I went on my merry way, safe and secure and joyful.

It isn’t until you’re vulnerable that you realize that you don’t really have a say on what you choose to believe. You can act like you’ve chosen, sure. But you genuinely cannot choose.

Anyway, my initial response to your last couple of sentences was going to be this

    4. Chase Harrison, you are correct that they were JOYFUL in their worship, however, we question who they were actually worshipping. When Hutson lifted up the other guy, I think it gives a clear indication that man was being lifted up in praise and not God.

Most here, heck almost all of us found true happiness and peace when we left such chaos and worked on our relationship directly with God, free from men like this.

Your comments reveal a lack of peace and happiness and so much hate (“feminists” “pseudo-males” “rebels” “Who will have the last laugh then?”). You are also committing the very actions you claim we are doing on this site, only you do so with great condemnation.

    5. Charles Harrison:
“Who will have the last laugh then?”
This indicates you have a very sad view and experience of God. Scripture states that God does not delight in the death of the wicked. God is not waiting for those who are reprobate to die so he can yell a Divine “I told you so.” or “In your face.” So it might do well for you if you chose to imitate Christ rather than a haughty spirit.
“Who will have the last laugh then?” indicates that you seem to prefer to be right rather than be like Christ. You love the letter of the law rather than the Spirit. Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection was not a Divine Middle Finger to sinners and reprobates, but a Divine Hand of reconciliation and love. There is no distance too far that God will not go and find lost sheep. God does not abandon God’s creation.

      1. Leanne, that was wonderful. Even if we have been Christians a long time we need to be reminded of the vastness of God’s lov e.

    6. I am calling Poe on Chase Harrison. I did not see any typos or bad grammar. A well “spoken” response like that is not the work of a True Fundy Christian™.

    7. These fine “Christian” men need to go to Jenny Craig before they have a heart attack.

And if our comments truly sadden you, click that X in the top right corner of your browser, Chase.

    8. Well, it doesn’t look like look like JOY to me. To me that looks more like the flesh speaking – in more senses than one 😉

    9. I’m so thankful that I can have the peace that comes from having finally left fundamentalism.

    10. Rebels? You mean those who don’t engage in ‘man worship’? Jesus was NO respecter of persons, and neither should we be. Furthermore, these silly theatrics in the pulpit are irreverent and not very dignified for God’s House. Also, emotionalism does not equal (true) worship or being spirit filled.

    11. And what flavor Kool-Aid can we pour for you today, sir?

      From Encyclopedia Brittanica:
CCognitive dissonance, the mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information. The unease or tension that the conflict arouses in a person is relieved by one of several defensive maneuvers: the person rejects, explains away, or avoids the new information, persuades himself that no conflict really exists, reconciles the differences, or resorts to any other defensive means of preserving stability or order in his conception of the world and of himself.

  5. I’ve never been shocked by anything on this site…I can no longer say that! Wow, and they wonder why they can’t reach and keep young people

  6. Same Tony Hutson. He is a joke of a Preacher, and even more of a joke of a Christian. Sometimes I wonder if many of these men are even believers. Remember what Paul said in Galatians about those who preach another gospel? He damned them. I would not dare do that, but these men are definitely preaching another gospel.

    1. Dear CavsLife:

      If that’s heaven, I don’t wanna go …

      Christian Socialist

PS: The post is titled ‘Shenanigans Redux,’ but ‘Why IFBs grow up IFBs’ might work also.

  7. Rev 3:1 despite all the outward signs of life, the church was a corpse. “Your are dead” was His verdict.

  8. I haven’t seen anyone recognize the “preacher”. It’s Barry Goodman from Faith Baptist in Shelby, NC. I grew up with my dad preaching at his church and he at ours. Thankfully my father left the IFB shortly after I was asked to never return to the church I grew up in because of my “liberal” theology.

    1. Yup… I saw him “preach” in a fundy camp meeting in Alabama that was held in a tent. He swung around one of the support poles one night while doing whatever you want to call what he was doing. He then made the comment that he didn’t want to hear people saying he was a pole dancing preacher or something. All I know is that from that moment on, he cemented himself as a pole dancing preacher in my mind, and the mental image is just as funny as it is somewhat disgusting.

      1. I would like to see Hutson as a pole dancer
It would have to be a very strong pole.

  9. Ok, I’m not a TH fan, but I think the guy in this video was used as an illustration of the lazy criticizing others. The kid was smiling as he sat down, so I’m pretty sure he understood it.

  10. I wish they would stop jumping around. They are registering 8.1 on the Richter Scale.

  11. I watched the video a couple times and really thought about what was going on. It occurred to me that maybe these guys were just caught up in the moment the way we can all be from time to time. Then I realized that this was just typical Fundy emotionalism. They are very good at whipping people up into an emotional frenzy. After that they can say the bible says the moon is made of cheese and everyone would believe it.

    1. Are you implying the moon is *not* made of cheese?!? My whole belief system has just collapsed!

      1. But, to be truly correct and picky, as in Fundystan, the moon is made of green cheese!

        1. Now I understand why Fundamentalists can come across as cheesy.
          … other Christians,too….
          (ducking and running)

      2. Paul Best, you inferred that he implied that the moon was not made of cheese.

Of course the moon is made of cheese. This world is so ignorant as to deny such obvious truth. Kind of like the truth that my former-fundy CEO’s little kingdom is the only church teaching truth, (implying truth is being taught in the first place). -gag-

  12. *Facepalm. All I can think of:
And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a bunch of guys jumping around screaming, and then, a still small voice…

P.S. “A bunch of old white guys…” As Cinema Sins would say, “That’s racist.”

  13. What A Great And Powerful Move Of God That Most Of You Will Never Know! Many Got The Holy Ghost And Shouted Ran And Praised Our Lord In Spirit And In Truth! My Preacher Testified Secondly As He Was Raised In A Drunkards Home And Like He Says, “All The Mess That Goes Along With It” !! But One Day A Church Bus Came By And Brought Him To Church And He Got Saved! I’m So Proud To Say That I’m Apart Of These Kind Of Churches!! Wouldn’t Want To Be Any Other Way! As For You That Want To Bash Us And Call Us Crazy, Why Does This Bother You At A Church, But Yet You Think it’s Ok To Do It At A Baseball Or Football Game! I Believe Instead That You Are Being Convicted And Know It’s The Right Way! Pray One Day You All Will Learn That The Old Time Religion Is The Way To Go! Jeremiah 6:16 KJV

        1. I can appreciate subtlety but it’s Monday, and I needed a good laugh, so thank you for that! 🙂

    1. Any chance yourself or your friends are planning to attend a remedial Grammar class at Community College nearby?
