Running the Aisles

Although Wikipedia identifies ‘running the aisles‘ as a Pentecostal or Holiness tradition it does show up in certain fundamentalist circles as well. To be fair, this sort of thing is usually reserved for Sammy Allen-style ‘camp meeting’ gatherings of the whoopin’ hollerin’ and tree-climbin’ variety. Still, for pure entertainment value it’s hard to beat. Be sure to keep an eye on the baptistry…

  2. I think among the Sammy Allen types the women are aloud to run the ailes and hoop and holler. I think some of them might allow men to have beards .

  3. Maybe they all had to pee? Long time lag between exit and entry for some of them. And for the guy in the baptistry: who would know?

  4. Oh my, I was crying I was laughing so hard. I have a tshirt that says, “Don’t run in the church”, I don’t think it would go over very well there…

  5. ” in the Pentecostal worship tradition, spontaneous expressions inspired by the moving of the Spirit are highly valued” — from the Wikipedia article on “Running the aisles”.

I’m just laughing about how “spontaneous” it is to run the aisles at a set time in a prescribed worship service. It doesn’t appear to happen during spontaneous Bible reading times at home, or during the meet and greet times of the service. Nope. It spontaneously only occurs during the music and/or preaching.

No liturgy here, folks, nothing to see, just move along.

  6. “Look, they’re filled with the spirit!”

“Why is the spirit telling him to throw his jacket at the singer?”

    “Ummm…”

“And why is the spirit telling that guy to re-baptize himself?”

    “…uh…”

  7. I just realized that I’ve been to this church before. My fundy church’s youth pastor’s wife came from this church as well.
