Wednesday Challenge: F-U-N-D-I-E-S

Since the holiday weekend is almost upon us I’m putting up this week’s challenge a little early. It’s simple this week. All you have to do is come up with an acrostic for the word FUNDIES.

F-
U-
N-
D-
I-
E-
S-

And…go.

  1. F- ?
U- Unquestioning loyalty to the “Mannagawd”
    N- ?
D- Demonization of anyone who disagrees with us.
    I- ?
    E- ?
S- Separated from everyone and everything.

    Thanks Darrell 😀

    1. I kept yours and filled in the rest:

      Fiercely critical of other Christians
      Unquestionly loyal to the pastor
      Not humble
Demonizing anyone who disagrees with us
Independent – unless you need help sweeping some uncomfortable situations under the rug
      Emotionless – unmoveable by compassion
      Separated from everyone and everything

I can’t think anything would be better for “S” than separated!

  2. F-Fudging every known statistic to make them #1
U-Undermining every dream and hope of the Sheeple
    N-Nonsense Poopy Pants
D-Destroying hopes and dreams that weren’t undermined sufficiently.
I-Willingly Ignorant of the Bible to bend it to their own agenda.
    E-EVERYONE BUT US is WRONG
S-So separated, they are separated from God.

    1. Count me as a fourth fan of nonsense poopy pants. I’ve actually used that a couple of times in real life, and its entirely true that it totally ends any and all debate. There is no retort!

  3. They want to be seen as this:

    F – faithful
    U – uncompromising
    N – noble
    D – discerning
    I – intelligent
    E – exemplary
    S – separated

In reality, many people see them as this:

    F – fanatical
    U – unloving
    N – nitpicky
    D – domineering
    I – irritable
    E – egotistical
    S – self-righteous

    1. It’s funny how reality affects people differently, huh? It’s that kind of disconnect that keeps The Faith a “Club” rather than an organism called “the Church”.

  4. Holiday weekend? I thought Thanksgiving isn’t for two more weeks. ❓ *scratches head* Or maybe I just need my coffee… 😕

    1. Was wondering myself. I don’t think its even the big Georgia/Georgia Tech college football weekend!

    2. I live in a military town where Veterans Day will have most folks off work on both Thursday and Friday.

For me it’s a “big holiday weekend” for others of you probably not so much.

      1. Eh, I don’t exactly get holidays or weekends off. 🙁 Tell, me what’s that like? (Me, jealous? A bit.)

      2. Two days off for Veterans Day?
Total number of days off for Veterans Day I’ve had in my life = 0.

        1. Most amount of time off I’ve gotten for Vet’s day was the 4 minutes of silence/observance spread over 4 years @ PCC. Don’t even have a moment of silence anywhere else I worked. And I thought one company I worked for that had solely banks as customers, would take all the bank holidays, but no, if any single one client was working that day, we worked that day too. I think that was just an excuse mgmt used to not give paid holidays though.

      3. Tomorrow is Remembrance Day here in Canada – a national holiday – but Friday it’s back to the grindstone.

    3. they took two of our vacation days away to give us Veterans day and one of the early year holidays instead. I don’t like it.

  5. F – Fundamentally flawed for all follower
U – Unanimously usurping usually (outdated language phrases)
N – Needlessly neglecting necessay knowledge
D – Disasterously defending dangerous douches (that was too
I – Insidiously instructing ignorant (adherents) in (erroneous) inerrancy & inspiration (of an antiquated translation)
    E – (drawing a blank)
S – Studiously & superbly seperating sinners (from) saints.

    1. How did I miss/forget standards?

Suggestions for e – effiminate, emasculated, eschatology/eschaton, elevated, extreme, erroneous. I just can’t form a complete thought maximizing the e’s. Little help!

      1. earnestly encouraging evangelistic endeavors that emphasize earthly efforts (instead of the power of the Spirit)

        1. Wow. Amazing use of the letter “e.” Pastor’s Wife must have learned alliteration from the best.

  6. Fantastical Fibbing
    Unnecessary Umbrage
    Narcissistic Nepotism
    Definitely Dim
    Infinitely Irritating
    Eschatologically Erroneous
    Sadistically Separate

  7. Amanda, Have your coffee, then ask any Veteran what holiday is this weekend, then apologize to them for not knowing.

    1. Most people don’t associate Thursday with a weekend, and the places that get time off for an extended holiday weekend are very few and far between. It’s no diss to vets to not assciate 11/11 with a time off work extended holiday weekend.

      1. Tony, I knew Thursday is Veterans Day, but my weekends don’t start on Thursday morning, and no place I’ve ever been has a four-day weekend off for Veterans Day.

    2. I want to shout out to all active duty military and veterans, God richly bless you one and all. It is because of you and God that we live in the greatest country in the world. Thank you for your service!

    3. Amanda, Rob M and Big Gary, Sorry if I sounded gruff (I didn’t have my coffee either). I used to get four day weekends off for Veterans Day all the time when I was in the military but now that I am a veteran, I have to work. Anyway, I apologize again. I think I was just taken back by the perception that someone was unaware of the holiday.

  8. Ok- here’s a complete one:

    Fie on the clock!
    Until somebody comes forward
    Nobody gets to leave!
    Don’t look around! This
    Invitation will
    Extend to well beyond
    Suppertime!

    (Won’t you come?)

  9. Brrr! It’s cold
    And my
    Nipples won’t
    Deflate.

    And
    I am a
    Distraction to the preacherboys!
Somebody get me some band aids!

  10. Off topic and totally random, but does anyone know what school would have sent out a singing group that was all girls? The reason I ask is that I remember a few years ago I was sitting in a coney having lunch when I saw a local pastor come in with group of college age girls and another man. The pastor was a hard core fundy. Anyway, when their meal arrived they proceeded to SING the prayer over their food, drawing the attention of course, of the entire restaurant. They were oblivious to the people around them and even though I was in fundyland at the time I remember being quite embarrassed and ticked off that they had disrupted the entire place in an effort to be a “good testimony”. They ended up doing little more than pissing off the entire place. The reason I happened to think of this was I was thinking
    N for narcissistic

    1. I knew a fundy pastor who had 4 (maybe 5?) daughters and they sang before they ate wherever they went. Even at restaurants. Was this in NY or SC?

      1. No, this was in Michigan, and it was a college. I just hated the whole “look at how holy we are, why, we’re singing a prayer” mentality.

        1. We only sing our Table Prayer for Thanksgiving/Christmas/Family Reunions. It’s an absolutely beautiful tradition!

  11. Pope over
    All who
    Sit in this local, New
    Testament church, giving
    Orders pertaining to the
    Righteousness of skirts

  12. Stand up!
Only fellas on the second verse.
    Never sing the third.
    Greet the person on your

    Left. Now
    Everybody on the last verse.
    Amen!
Deacons will now take the offering.
Ever wonder why I’m standing here,
    Randomly flailing my arms?

  13. Potatoe salad!
    Orange drink!
    Taco salad!
    Let’s pray that nobody throws
    Up their
    Casserole.
Kids! Run amok in the gym/dining hall!

  14. Fraudulent gospel (1-2-3 repeat after me)
    Unconditional submission to the pastor/institution
    Neurotic approach to the world
    Demonization of other denominations
    Inability to cope with disagreement
    Estrangement from real life
Separation of gospel and life (legalism)

  15. Fanatical followers of fallen fools
    Unctuous, unmerciful, unholy, unprincipled ultramilitants
    Nosy neighbors, negators of naysayers
    Die-hard defenders of dubious doctrines
    Idiotic iterators of insane anti-intellectualisms
Excreting excessive ex-cathedra exclamations that enslave
Sociopaths celebrating secretive sins (some sexual)

  16. S – Something for Everyone who is contentions
F – Full of hatred, unrealistic expectations and spite.
L – Likes cash for clicks, so went from funny and tongue in cheek to contentious, hateful and spiteful

      1. Haha – you guys are totally clueless about that too apparently, if you are getting the traffic, Google Ads can make you money.

You are the experts on everything

      2. And even if that were true, where’s the problem? If Darrell makes any money from this site, I’ll gladly click all day long to help make it happen. It’s worth it for the catharsis and therapy.

      3. @Good Grief
Darrell has told me how much he makes from this sight, and I have seen how he lives. I am under no delusions on this point. There is a reason he still has to work another job.

Here, as in all places, some people make foolish statements about things they don’t know about, but right now I am afraid you are making assertions about Darrell’s life and motives that are not only unsupported but I have personally observed to be false.

      1. Didn’t think he would stay away long.

    1. G/G, here’s some relevant reading material:

    2. This is probably wrong, but it’s the only response I could come up with to Good Grief. Forgive me, I’m sure he’s a nice guy.

      Doesn’t realize that in
      Order to
      Understand and reject
      Crazy fundies you
      Have to
      Expose their insanity

    3. I’m actually going to pretend this person is serious, although I highly doubt it.

You say we’re contentious, hateful, and spiteful?

Let’s talk about Fundamentalism, shall we?

Fundamentalism’s main doctrine is not, as they claim it is, the five fundamentals, but separation. Separation from the world, separation from false teachers, separation of the sexes, even separation over the teeniest, tiniest, most inconsequential matters. The fierce attachement to separation is pretty insane, really. It overshadows the five fundamentals to the point where heresies such as the eternal humanity of Christ and subordination in the Trinity have slipped into the back door.

Also, Fundamentalists do not just separate, they separate with a vengeance. For example, the KJVO Fundamentalists have said things about the translators of modern translations, for example, that would very likely be considered defamation of character if it were to go to court. We’re talking terrible misstatements about the beliefs and practices of the translators, pretty much calling them everything but children of God. Never mind that many of these people are quite devout Christians with a passion for getting the Scriptures to the world. They have already been judged and condemned. No good Christian love in that.

So… if you are going to point a finger at us for being contentious, spiteful, and hateful, maybe it might be worth looking around on Sunday morning first? I’d suggest starting at the mirror.

Now, if you want serious conversation about why we left Fundamentalism, what we wish had been different, whether we believe Fundamentalism can clean up its act in some important areas, great. We may disagree… we don’t always agree among ourselves here, so we’ll deal with that. If you want civil discussion, we’re ready. But if not, oh well.

    1. Why thank you.
I felt that my acrostic was rather inadequate with the amount of genius around here.. you guys made my day. 😉

  19. Fundy
    Unquestionably a fundy
    Never stop being a fundy
Damn it feels good to be a fundy
