A Fundy Free Day

Today I have a gift to give you all. I declare this day, the 8th of September, to be a Fundy Free day. I invite you all to take this day and with it pretend (to the extend that you are able) that fundamentalism and it’s ills and snares simply do not exist. Rise from your place and take a walk. Read a book. Say a prayer. Call a friend you haven’t heard from in a while. Turn up the radio and sing until your lungs ache.

And if upon this day you are a student or staff member at some fundamentalist institution and cannot very well completely ignore where you are then I would bid you to commit some small random act of disobedience today such as will leave a smile on your face through other days to come. Sneak out. Live free. Breathe a little unregulated air and know that life is still full of good things and freedom waits just around the next corner.

For it’s little good to be free if you spend every day obsessed with peering back into your old cage and rattling the dusty chains you find there. I love you all and I’ll see you again tomorrow.

  1. Okay, I’ll do just that. I started RCIA classes last night, so I’m thinking a lot about my next phase of life.

  2. OK, after my gloomy, whiny post earlier today, I ended up celebrating Fundy Free Day in an awesome and unexpected way. I am so filled with joy and awe and happiness — it has nothing to do with finances btw but everything to do with soaking in the truths of grace and the Gospel. I am SO HAPPY. I love Jesus SO MUCH. I am so thankful to be free not only because I was free to enjoy what I did tonight but also because I can live my life without striving for righteousness but delighting in Christ Who is my Righteousness!!!!

  3. Ok, I had to get in on the song action:
MOG: “Follow the god who failed!” (Metallica)
Me: “Run to the hills!” (Iron Maiden)
    MOG: “Obey your master!” (Metallica)
Me: “I’m going through changes…” (Black Sabbath)
MOG: “You’re on the highway to hell!” (AC/DC)
    Me: “Hell Yeah!” (Rev Theory)
MOG: “Bow down to the king!” (Motorhead)
Me: “It’s a deadly game…” (Theory of a dead man)
MOG: “Don’t lose you Age of Innocence” (Iron Maiden)
    Me: “Shock me!” (Kiss)
    MOG: “Hooligan!” (Kiss)
    Me: “Nothin to lose!” (Kiss)
    etc., etc., etc…

    1. I only know “Highway to Hell” but the titles definitely work! Good job. 🙂

  4. My “song” for leaving fundyland was “I Am Free” by the Newsboys. SO appropriate. And Newsboys are definitely not fundy approved. I actually heard it on the Christian radio station today, which is a nice coincidence. =)

    1. Yeah, that’s awesome! I went to a ladies’ meeting where a small local band covered that song, and it was AWESOME realizing – I am free!!! I’d read that in the Bible, but I’d never experienced it. Now I can at last!

  5. Just gotta say I found out about this past 10:30 pm… Mind you today was pretty sweet so who knows, maybe It rubbed off a bit.
