  1. Also, I love the way Baptists love to insert the word “only” into so many verses. God says “Do such-and-such” and fundies interpret that as “Do ONLY such-and-such or I’ll smite you dead!” Yes, God wants us to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, but He never said that’s the ONLY thing we’re allowed to sing.

  2. Dear Liberty Gospel Tracts:

1] Why the whole ‘incarnation’ gig; wouldn’t it have been easier just to send us a tract?

2]Why muddle the gospel with slogans from the Romantic era and the Revolutions that owned them?

  3. In the Bible Study on “The Christian’s Appearance”, these statements are made:

“A man ought to wear his hair short (I Corinthians 11:14) — off the ears and collar. That way he is clearly obeying God. If a man wants to argue this point, it is because he desires to be like the world.”
**My answer to this is that it’s not our place to judge people’s MOTIVES.

    Another quote:
“17. Ezekiel 44:20 says of the priests, ‘Neither shall they __________ their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow __________; they shall only poll their heads.’

Note: God’s will is not for men to shave their heads, nor to grow their hair long. God’s will is for a man to have a decent short haircut.”

**My answer: This was specific for PRIESTS not all men, and it is part of the OT law which believers are not bound to.

    1. In the study on women’s jewelry, ALL piercings are described as sin:

“On the other hand, if they notice that she has holes in her earlobes, but that she never wears pierced earrings, then they will probably ask her about it. Then she can share how she did wrong, but repented of it, and no longer wears them. That is the only way that she can be a good example to the next generation — to take them out and not wear them.”

**My answer: The prohibition against cutting the flesh was in the OT law which is not binding on us and it also specifically mentions not doing it as a pagan practice in mourning for the dead. I believe Christians have liberty in this area.

  4. Apparently, you should never listen to ANY music that is not psalms, hymns, or spiritual songs:

“According to Colossians 3:16, is classical music acceptable in a worship service? Well, is classical music ‘psalms, hymns, or spiritual songs?’ (This is dealt with in a later section.) No, it does not qualify as any of those. Then according to Ephesians 5:19, neither should you be listening to it by yourself.”

    1. I about did. I got through maybe a third of those questions and just gave up because I couldn’t stand to face it anymore. The verses quoted out of context, the complete lack of an answer in many cases, the occasional quoting of a verse only to turn around and completely contradict it in the next sentence… I couldn’t bear it!

      1. I believe Dickens said it best when the Spirit of Christmas Present told
Scrooge, “This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.”

Ignorance of biblical truth has been bred and inbred until we have generations upon generations perpetuating a fractured version of the Gospel and a mancentered religion where the god is neatly packed into a Black leather bound, 1611, King James translation that can be easily misquoted and taken out of context for nearly any agenda.

    1. Remember, if you’re a married woman, you have to ask your husband first. Maybe HE’LL write in and ask your question for you.

  5. OMG! I’ve been lurking off and on…but…this post really kicked it up for me. I spent WAY too much time reading those Q&As! I think I ran through the gamut of emotions reading this mess…it’s funny to read everyone’s comments because I think I had pretty much every thought that was expressed here. It’s comforting to me that there are people EVERYWHERE out there who went through the same experiences as I did. 😀

    1. Welcome to SFL! You just nailed why we are all here, the common experience. Glad to have you sailing with us. 😀

  6. I looked through the Bible study and got as far as the part about women wearing earrings. It seems women in the Old Testament wore earrings, but they were only clip-ons.

    1. I mean, women in the OT wore nose rings! They probably had those pretty gold chains with charms hanging off them between their nose piercings and their ear piercings, too! 🙂

  7. The arrogance of that entire site is massive. The poorly-written tracts and lessons are filled with the author’s opinions and personal convictions stated as ABSOLUTE FACT, unable to be defended in Scripture (throwing in a couple of out-of-context references not being a legitimate defense of anything). And even when the author himself realizes at points that his position is easily arguable, he attempts to squash all such argument by stating some variation of “if you want to argue about it, its because you are rebellious and trying to live like the world.”

So, according this site, the standard that we are to live our lives by isn’t the Bible, its actually Liberty Gospel Tracts.

  8. As someone who is an unashamed fan of body art I thought the one on tattoos was a real lulu. At first I was amused. Then I got sad, then mad when I thought of the effect such shit would have on am immature Christian 🙁
