How can we support Phelps, prepare to jettison our beloved founder once there is public word about his confession, and still pretend like we are not like all these godly men who have failed to properly cover up their cover up of sin. Lets spiritualize it and blame the victim. Along with every passive agressive technique taught at fundy U.

Just more proof of how complete Darrell's grasp of fundy goodthink has become

Wow....the sidbar Scripture of "overlooking a transgression" is almost Orwelian propaganda at its best! The posts are quite nonsensical...

What??????????????? I am almost moved to profanity.

A band with guitars and drums in church is WORSE than a 15 year old being raped by a grown man? I am disgusted beyond words. I am infuriated. I think I need to stop typing and go outside and start hitting the ground with a baseball bat because I am BEYOND outraged.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

Quote:I like your comment that we shouldn’t leave the IFB because of some perceived “wrongdong” on our pastor’s part. I feel sorry for the young lady involved in this story for the perceived misconduct that she endured. But I don’t think that’s close to as bad as leaving a good church and exposing yourself to false doctrine and new evangelicalism. Did you see this so-called “church” that this young lady has now drifted to? They had a rock band and obviously are liberal! They obviously have no problems with Steve Green or Sandy “Fatty” and would actually endorse those kind of musicians. The biggest problem I see is the rebellion of the people who don’t want standards and want to go liberal churches.

this has to be Poe's Law at work. This has to be a cleverly written piece of satire right? I mean no one would actually think that

Quote:Bob, I respect your opinion and don’t mean to be unkind, but the fact of the matter is that you are way, way, way off base. Music, amongst other things, is very important. If you would have watched the show you would have seen that at the so-called “church” that this young lady now attends they have a rock band playing right up on the platform. That is worse than any so-called abuse that may have occurred at her solid, fundamentalist, separated church that she went to before. I’m beginning to doubt her story and of others like her because I think they just don’t like to have solid music standards, dress standards and other separated positions and are just using some flimsy excuse to go into a liberal, non-separated, compromising “church.”

Now I'm nauseated.

Attending a "liberal" church that has a "rock band" is worse than being raped by a church member, being forced to "confess sin" before the church, get sent a couple time zones away, have your baby taken from you, be told to write an apology letter to the rapist's wife, get sent back home to be ostracized and have to attend church with your rapist, and have everyone think you're a bad influence.

So to follow this person's "logic", only people who remain in an abusive situation are to be believed.

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?

Clearly, this person got their logic from the fundy foyer gumball machine.

That just seems like a spoof comment to me. I know some wacked out fundies, but I don't know of any that would put sexual abuse lower on the rung of unacceptable sins than contemporary music.

I sincerely hope the original post was satire.
If not..what horrible logic. Let's make up a story about rape and discredit the church leaders so we can to to a church with a live band. How ridiculous!Angry

Interesting read at SI... I eventually quit because it got monotonous after a while.

They're still trying to draw distinctions between themselves and Hyles Anderson, which serves only to distract and get people fighting about a moot point. Nobody claimed that HAC and Northland are the same. The points are (1) multiple prominent institutions in the IFB movement are involved, disproving the argument that is is isolated and rare; and (2) they have behaved the same way in regard to punishing victims and protecting sex abusers.

its slight of hand, or more accurately Jedi mind powers given the level of control they hold over their networks.

These are not the pedophiles and pastors who coddle them you are looking for. Nothing to see here, move along.
