RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I like make-up and pedicures and clothes and shoes and pink.
I can also tell you every World Series Champion since 1984 and recite tons of useless baseball stats and like any good Nebraska girl, evaluate the merits of running vs. passing oriented offenses in college football. It was the second sentence that got me in trouble when I taught at the Christian school. I was constantly told to give up watching sports. Most memorably, and on topic, in what was practically an intervention, a group of older female teachers explained to me that unless I wanted to never ever marry, I needed to start doing crafts immediately. So there you have it. |

Can we talk about something else, now? I completely agree! The most 'girly' activity I like is cooking and baking. Besides that, I (along with my husband) am an outdoors person. I was proposed to on a camping trip. I don't mind limited amounts of cutsey, but not in excess. |

RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I suppose I'm "girly", but not over the top cutesy. There is nothing floral in my decor, except my daughter's room, but she's 7 so pink and purple and hearts and flowers and all things cute abound in her world. I enjoy baking and scrapbooking, but I also like to watch basketball. Not sure where that lands me on the spectrum.

RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I do NOT like all of that girly stuff, never really have. I took my daughter (7) for manis/pedis this weekend after we had tea. Just a fun mommy daughter day before the baby comes. My husband took our son (10) to laser tag. While my daughter enjoyed our day, she asked to join them next time they play laser tag
For her 5th birthday I took her to Downtown Disney for a makeover, hair, nails, makeup, lots of sparkle. We get there and she refuses and instead ask to go indoor sky diving. Love that she had her own idea of the perfect birthday present. Plus how often does one get to see their 5 year old floating in the air? She is definitely not a girly girl, but it wouldn't surprise me if she goes through a phase at some point.

@amyrose, are you a Cornhusker fan? I have one of those in my family.
"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

I LOVE crafts, never thought of that being girly, LOL. I enjoy making jam, playing with my Cricut, although I don't like scrapbooking. I enjoy painting furniture to match what I want rather than trying to buy it. I love cake decorating, don't eat cake. I also enjoy making hair accessories, but I haven't perfected bows, mine are princesses, flowers, hearts, I guess that is girly. Ack, I'm more girly than I thought.

RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I'm half Asian, so the love for cuteness is bred into me. I especially like Kawaii style things. (It's a Japanese cutesy style kind of like Hello Kitty but cuter) I have to be careful with the the amount of girly accessories I have because I already look really young. I don't need to look like I'm 13. My boyfriend hates driving my car because it's a yellow VW Beetle and I have serious bling on my keys. lol

I'm just not. Yet, somehow, I have managed to be happily married for the last two years to a man who is not at all disturbed by the lack of scrapbooking and cross stitch in the house. How odd! |

RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I have tried to be crafty but my thing is I will learn to do something, like knit and I will make ONE thing and move on and do something else. I learned to play a few songs on the penny tin whistle.. moved on. I can't seem to stay with something long enough to make it a 'hobby'.
Right now I'm thinking about learning to quilt but I know perfectly well that I will make ONE quilt and then move onto something else... I don't know if that makes me crafty or just easily bored. When my daughter and I are together we talk books and movies and music...nothing really girly. We are individuals. We don't live in boxes so to think we should all fit into the same one is unrealistic. Interests are bound to overlap and cross boundaries. O Beauty ever ancient, O Beauty ever new; you, the mirror of my life renewed, let me find my life in you.~St. Augustine |

RE: Girly Cutesy-isms
I'm into DIY culture, which has a certain amount of girlyness to it, especially since it's very related to arts and crafts. However, my reason for getting into DIY is less about being a proper female and more about saving money, being environmentally-friendly, developing practical skills, understanding fashion/design, and not supporting commercialism so much. A lot of which fundies don't like.
It's the same thing with cooking. I don't think I really enjoy cooking, but I almost always prefer cooking food to save money and eat healthier. So to some extent I can relate to fundy women about these things, but I don't have the same motivations. I do enjoy reading fashion blogs and magazines, trying out different outfits and styles, occasions to get my makeup done, getting my nails painted, and getting a nice haircut. Haircuts especially. They're like the highlight of my year. I used to like shopping back in college, but since then I somehow became jaded to it. (So this is what it's like to age.) |
