It's funny, last summer alot of the teens from our church went swimming in the youth pastor's pool one Wednesday night after youth group (in their swimsuits!!!) As I stood there supervising, all I could think of was how horrified my mother would be that they were "mixed bathing"!!!! ![]() I think the no "mixed bathing" standard is a southern IFB thing. Christians, we're all afraid of fire, We prefer to suck on pacifiers - Baby pacifists, we're throwin' fits. We don't shake hands, we shake our fists! We're cannibals, we watch our brothers fall - We eat our own, the bones - and all! - "Down in Flames" Relient K |

"mixed bathing".....I have visions of an old silent movie where the women are running around like a rodent after taking a hit of speed being chased by and equally jacked up man waiving a bible.
Confession time: while stationed at Plattsburgh, NY, the Canadians would come down from Quebec during their vacations (they closed the country for two weeks) and the females would chang into their swim suits .....on the beach....I would be doing sprints on my bike and make it my habit to drop in at the beach around noonish to site-see. I would see some people from church there and they would be hiding their kids faces while all this was happening...One of the men saw me sitting on my Peugot, sunglasses, helmet, big grin....I just waived he was a deacon....I had leverage ...it was awesome.....ah yeah, good times...good times. RE: Teachers/Workers Guidelines
I never worked at an IFB church but my dad did. He was a Christian school administrator. We moved around (different states) a lot and it always amazed me how in one church, "this was a sin" and in another church "this was a sin", so it was like, ok, now we have to abide by a whole other set of rules according to this or that particular church.
One church actually allowed certain Steve Green and Sandi Patti songs to be sung in church but were wholly against pants on girls and "mixed bathing". But another church allowed pants (for certain activities) but were crazy strict on the music scene. Every where we went, the rules changed...that was really fun for a teenager to digest let me tell you!! I will never do that to my kids. If it's ok in my home, than it's ok outside of my home. My husband is a pastor and our church had a Halloween party for the community. My kids went as "Harry Potter" and a "witch". We laughed at the irony of it. I figured if I don't have a problem with it, then I will NOT make them do something different for the sake of apperances or for the church. If it's ok in my home, it's ok in church or outside my home and people are just gonna have to deal with that!! |

It's so freeing to be authentic and genuine and loving, to believe the best of other Christians (instead of thinking, "She dressed her kid like a witch. They must be secret Satan-worshippers!") It's so wonderful to not have to put on a mask in order to impress church folks but just to be real. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |
