"That's where it starts..."

RE: "That's where it starts..."
I know the first rock n' roll song I listened to was the beginning of the downhill slide for me. Now, I'm one of those backsliders who "goes to church" in a bagel shop, listens to rock, drinks alcoholic beverages, and smokes a pipe. (and that's just a sampling of my "sins")

The funny thing is that my relationship to the Father is much closer than it ever was when I tried to be a "good Christian." Go figure.

*lifts a glass your way.... Diet DP this early in the morning, though*

Funny thing, where my "downhill slide" or escape out of Fundyland began was not in some assumed den of sin, but at none other than BJU itself. A prof had the nerve to teach about Christian liberty, and I took it to heart. These Fundies gotta watch it about assuming where it all starts. Big Grin

Where it started for me was in my first class at Divinity School. When I found out that we continue to publish bibles with the last thirteen verses of Mark, even though there is consensus they were added much later. Not only did it do a number on the Inerrancy Doctrine, but it opened the door for me to doubt anything coming out of the mouth of the MoG.

They were unkind to someone suffering, they stuck to the rules rather than reach out in compassion, they blamed the victim, they insisted on forgiveness and moving on when a victim was not ready and then called it bitterness. We saw control when the leader was supposed to be a shepherd. For many of us it was not just once, it was over and over until we could no longer make allowances for it.

Can't speak for everyone but that is where it started for me.

That'd be me...or a very parallel version of that story.
