Hmmm. Isn't it interesting that not ONE of those things is actually found in Scripture:

1) the KJV
2) women wearing skirts only
3) singing from specific hymnals
4) praying at an altar in the NT church

Maybe some of us aren't compromising. Maybe we're just getting back to the basics of Scripture.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

I also just posted something about Glenn Beck's conspiracy thinking. We'll see if I lose any fundy friends over that one.Dodgy

At least s/he didn't add "90% of your friends won't repost this b/c they aren't true Bible-believing Christians."

Ugh, I hate those copy and paste status updates and I refuse to do them, no matter what type of guilt trip is attached!

I refuse to do them too, if a guilt trip is attached. Even if I'd thought about it while reading the status... if there's a guilt trip attached, I will refuse to repost it.

RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
To answer the question, most are not. I left my old church after seperating and divorcing my first wife. Most of my so-called friends were supposedly life-long friends....ones that I had grown up with in my fundie church. I have since remarried.

Now, most barely speak to me and avoid me if at all possible...not all, but most. It made me bitter at first, but now, I just feel sorry for them...

RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
I posted something on my wife's wall about the Francesca Battistelli song, "This Is the Stuff," which is about not letting little things get you down. Shortly thereafter, this showed up on a mutual friend's wall:

Quote:Referring to a popular song, I only wish losing my keys and phone were the worst things that could happen. Do you have any idea the number of people on this earth that have no food to eat? or clothes to wear? be thankful you have a car and a phone and stop letting it "drive you crazy" and "get to you lately!" I've wanted to say that for a long time!!! Smile

My fantasy response: "When you homeschool three kids, losing your keys or phone is almost a certainty, and it is the little things that can get you down. But thanks for reminding us that there are people with bigger problems. We didn't know that, of course. I'll be interested to see what happens when you have kids."

Oh, man... a friend of mine was bemoaning the fact that she has to move from a nice apartment to a smaller, outdated townhouse with less room for her kids to stretch out, and someone pulled a hardcore Jesus juke about "try living in Afghanistan..." Yes, heaven forbid any of us have a bad day or think something is a bummer and feel free to vent about it... Dodgy

On my blog or whinier FB posts, I usually add the disclaimer that "yes, I know it could be worse, but if you've got a problem with me saying what's on my mind, read elsewhere. You don't HAVE to read what I say." Yeah, it's a peeve of mine. Blush

It's so annoying when Christians 1) pick apart perfectly find songs in order to find a way to disagree with it and 2) act holier than thou and disagree with us with a tone of self-righteous self-satisfaction. I don't know the mutual friend, of course, but I highly doubt that he/she drifts through life never letting anything get under their skin. Some of us face enormous, mind-blowing tragedies and challenges. The rest of us face all the little daily irritations that DO frustrate us - if we are transparent and honest about it! That's the thing - the friend is just putting on a facade of "Why be bothered by little things? At least I have a car!" Yeah, we know that! But head knowledge doesn't always transfer to our feelings when we're late, the kids are screaming, and we can't find the keys.

I don't know if the mutual friend was IFB, but the response was typical in its refusal to be humble and honest, transparent and real. Instead it was just a statement of "Shame on your for feeling that way."

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

If they reject you for your beliefs, were they really your friend to begin with? Undecided
