RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
I had a friend's mom on my facebook friends list, but only for a short while. Once she accepted my friend request, I made a post on her wall saying: "Welcome to the dark side! Check your coat at the door; disco lounge is to the right. Oh, and we have cookies." Someone else had made a post welcoming her to the dark side, so I thought it would be ok... but she immediately de-friended me. Mind you, this is someone I thought I knew, but apparently I didn't.

RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
I have an old fundy friend from high school who sent me an invite to his church's revival services. I thought about going because he is still a nice guy even if we disagree on some things now. But when I saw who (Dr. Kidd) was preaching the revival, I decided that I couldn't sit through an hour of his preaching even for a friend.
Though parts of me want to go just for the entertainment value.

RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
@chris, you could always go and do a synopsis of the service for us, as someone did previously on the Sword of the Lord conference. Or is that just cruel and unusual punishment?
"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

But I would feel bad sharing them here (though my friend would probably never know), because I would hate for him to think that I just came to make fun of one of his favorite speakers. Have you heard Kidd speak before, pw? we are all a little looney |

But, there is just so much to make fun of! If you want Bible preaching though I'd go elsewhere.

I get your point, chris! It's different to go on your own for the purpose of later letting others know what's actually going on there than to go at a friend's invitation.
I not only have never heard Kidd speak, I never even heard of him at all until SFL. (My little church growing up was a GARBC church, and my adult years have been spent in churches loosely associated with Bob Jones. One was also GARBC.) "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

@leaving
Very true. (04-06-2011 03:12 PM)pastors wife Wrote: I not only have never heard Kidd speak, I never even heard of him at all until SFL. (My little church growing up was a GARBC church, and my adult years have been spent in churches loosely associated with Bob Jones. One was also GARBC.) I had not heard of some of the other fundies mentioned here either before SFL. But my friend has had Kidd to his church several times through the years, and they did a tent meeting with him once when I was in high school. I attended that a few times. Kidd is an example of the hyper-fundy. He is interesting/entertaining, but as leaving said not a great source for sound, biblical preaching. In defense of my friend...he is a super-nice guy but he sincerely believes that Kidd is right and doing good. we are all a little looney |

Go. Please. And record/film it - for us. I haven't heard Phil Kidd in a long time.

Actually, you'll probably start laughing during it, and become a sermon illustration, or a target
And forever after, Phil Kidd will talk about the guy who wouldn't stop laughing during his sermons and was possessed by the debil himself!

RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
A high school friend posted this on FB the other day:
"What happened to the Standards in Our Churches now days??? Since when is it ok to read from something besides to KJV, wear anything other than Dress/Skirts to church, Sing from something besides the Red Back Hymnal or the old Mulls Blue Book, True Alter of Prayer to pray for Sinners???? When did we start to Compromise???" I also just posted something about Glenn Beck's conspiracy thinking. We'll see if I lose any fundy friends over that one.
