RE: Are your old fundy friends still your friends?
@Ex-IFBer, thank you. My husband tells me that if they dropped me, they weren't really my friends, but I thought they were and they were my primary social life (that's how the IFB tends to be), so I really miss them. I think it's just part of the price of being a pastor's wife. People often leave because they're mad at the pastor or the direction he chose to take so they don't want to be friendly with him (or his wife) later.
@elfdream, we are planning on being actively involved in our community. (That's part of what scared people off. You can't be a real IFBer and help alongside non-IFBers in doing charity work. We are so they rejected us, to oversimplify it a bit.) We've already gotten involved with some events at the local high school. I do have several acquaintances, but my life used to focus around church. We'd see the same folks Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and then any extra times for special events like church picnics, Bible studies, or just casual one-on-one get-togethers. So while the people I've met are nice, their lives are all busy, and I don't know how to create a closer friendship than just the more surface acquaintances I have. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |
