New Perspective on Paul
What do you think about it?

In my opinion, the underlying contention, that Paul should be understood from an ancient Jewish perspective rather than a 16th century perspective, seems reasonable.

"For God has imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he could have mercy on everyone." ~ St. Paul

RE: New Perspective on Paul
I'm still not convinced that the Pharisees believed in salvation by grace, through faith.

RE: New Perspective on Paul
Well, I'm still trying to get a grasp on this. One of the problems I've run into is different explanations from different people who hold to it. I've been somewhat confused by that, but then I'm on the other side of the world.

Looking at Paul from a first century Jewish perspective is a good underlying assumption, I agree.

Behold, what manner of love is this, that Christ should be arraigned and we adorned; that the curse should be laid on His head and the crown set on ours. –Thomas Watson

For those not familiar with NPP, here is a resource that might be helpful: http://www.thepaulpage.com/

Here's a very good introductory youtube video on NPP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqZYbcvANhM

RE: New Perspective on Paul
I'll be honest and say I didn't understand what he was actually saying in the video. I'm not sure of his point about Paul. I understand the bit about "lutheranism/protestantism" demonizing Judaeism, but I am not sure of what he is saying about Paul. From what I got - they were saying "you don't have to be a jew to be saved", which is not a new perspective at all???

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12

RE: New Perspective on Paul
So they aren't taking a new perspective on justification, just on what Paul thought and wrote about the Jews?

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12
