Habits of the High-Tech Heart
..by Quentin Schultze, faculty of Calvin College. Have you read this book? What do you think?

No. This is the first I've heard of it. Have you read it or are we both having a conversation about something neither one knows about?

RE: Habits of the High-Tech Heart
I was curious so I popped over to Amazon, read the intro, the first few pages, and some reviews.
His arguments seem to boil down to: Anonymity = no accountability Internet subculture = Utopian ideals that put our hope in technology Chat rooms/forums = falls communities where people take too much control over their own lives (i.e., IRL I would have had to put up with John the Troll instead of ignoring his posts) Lack of ethics = people not applying the ethics they already have to new technology because technology is changing too fast and people get left behind This type of "technology will destroy our moral culture" rhetoric is OLD. Neil Postman wrote similar things about Television in "Amusing Ourselves to Death" in 1985 and he borrowed most of his ideas from Marshall McLuhan's Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man and The Medium is the Message. All books are good (if dated in some places) and I've seen LOTS of rehashes of them. So..I probably won't be reading this book. It "seems" to fall into a "Let's say the same things as before but put Christianity into the mix" category. |

RE: Habits of the High-Tech Heart
I guess my heart isn't as high-tech as all that. I probably don't need the book.

We have Tony Mel to thank for our "new" dictator.
And now I have 4 stars. Yay!!!!!!
