From the perspective of the opposite side I'd rephrase those as "you have an innate disposition to a particular sin" and "that's no excuse to break God's law even if you think that is where happiness lies." It's not that the traditional perspective hates pleasure (a common misconception) but rather the pleausres of sin for a season that ultimately result in damage to the person doing them.

From a historic Christian perspective they are not dissimilar. They would both be seen as overwhelming desires to a violation of God's law through intemperate behavior.

If you're of the position that same-sex relationships contain no inherent moral prohibition then I understand why you would think the two are totally unrelated. It all depends on where you're standing.
