Quick reply here...just skimmed the thread, and wanted to give answer to a couple of things on this particular page...
@Jenn: you said, " why does God give some people such a hard life? It seems radically unfair to me." They should actually consider it a blessing that they have been counted able to bear such a cross! cf. Heb. 12:1-11. But let them not shrink back from bearing it, for "the just shall live by faith: but if any draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him." @Smith: you said, "Sodom wasn't destroyed for gluttony". Actually...gluttony ("excess of food", ESV), was definitely one of the reasons it was destroyed...along with pride, idleness, lack of almsgiving, and haughtiness, and "committed abomination" (most likely refers to homosexuality, but not necessarily). cf. Ezekiel 16:49, 50 |
