So You Think You Can Dance
Here I thought I was growing less fearful of fundy condemnation, but tonight I didn't dare post on facebook that I was watching "So You Think You Can Dance" and absolutely loved Eliana's dance to "Bang, Bang, He Shot Me Down" (a remake of the old song). It was absolutely beautiful, but also sensuous so I'm reluctant to share my enjoyment of it publicly.
I've always secretly loved dance but pretty much ignored my interest because I was taught it was sinful. And I do admit that many dances are much too overtly sexual for me to enjoy with a pure conscience. But others are amazing and passionate and soulful. I've seen many that I've absolutely loved (even though I haven't watched every season), but two performances I've never forgotten. The first was a touching tribute to Mia's dad: The second is humorous but intense and reminds me of old black and white movies about wicked villains and damsels in distress: "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

RE: So You Think You Can Dance
I haven't seen much of this season, but I love So You Think You Can Dance. 3 performances have stayed with me. Mia's tribute to her dad is one. The others are Mia's routine on addiction from a few years back and Tyce's breast cancer survivor tribute. All 3 of those brought me to tears and left me awestruck at the power of art to communicate pure emotion.

I don't think I saw the latter two. I'll have to check them out.
Quote: the power of art to communicate pure emotion-- yes. Music and dance - powerful. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

My daughter and I watch it. She has made comments about the dancers' lack of modesty.
In some cases, I'll agree with her, but I remind her that the dancers are not wearing those scraps of fabric to the grocery store. They are wearing (skimpy) costumes for a show. But that when she dances for shows her instructor makes sure the girls are dressed appropriately. And that it's the dancers' choice to wear or not wear skimpy clothes. But we love the dancing. I've bought her a couple of dress up things to wear to dance along.I liked that dance last night, too, PW. |

Get different judges, and we might watch that show at our house. I want to gag myself with a rusty pitchfork when I hear them speak, or scream, or whatever.
When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow. |

RE: So You Think You Can Dance
We only get CBS anymore so havent seen this season I fell in love with Hok when he first auditioned years ago. I was so jealous when my husband worked an LMFAO concert and Hok was there. I would have brought the kids and the baby for a chance to see him dance in person.
