AMP, ASV, CEV, ESV,HCSB KJB, NIV, QQX
The last one I made up. As far as I know there is no QQX.
But what is your favorite translation? The NIV has always been my guilty pleasure. I remember discovering it years ago. Even though I wouldn't have dared take to church it's been the one I've always used for Bible reading and studying. I've lately been using the HCSB and been enjoying that too. |

RE: AMP, ASV, CEV, ESV,HCSB KJB, NIV, QQX
I probably first read the NIV when I dared read something besides the KJV.
Today, our church uses the ESV, but somehow for me my favorite is the NLT - New Living Translation. I love it. It is fresh and powerful and direct. I want to get this Bible someday: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/B...vent=ESRCP "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

We use the RSV at church. But I've enjoyed the NIV and the Message and the Living Bible too.

RE: AMP, ASV, CEV, ESV,HCSB KJB, NIV, QQX
I enjoy the ESV the most, because it seems to me the best balance between the two issues of translation–dynamic equivalency and direct translation word for word. Since I work a lot with languages I have a small glimpse of how very difficult this balance is, and I admire the job the ESV translators did. Others have always done fine translations, of course, but I also like the way the ESV preserves some of the stately beauty that was found in the King James, and is found in the original. I find other good translations, like the NASB, kind of awkward sounding. The NIV I really like in places. There are some spots where their translation is really clear–even clearer than other good translations. But I find more places in the NIV where the translators' personal preferences and theological takes show than in the ESV; and I just don't always care for the way it reads.
My one great concern, though, is that the ESV or the NIV (those two seem most likely to me) will eventually become to our descendents what the KJB is today, and there will be more fighting and controversy. Sad, but I don't know that it can be avoided. This has been going on in the Church since at least Jerome. Behold, what manner of love is this, that Christ should be arraigned and we adorned; that the curse should be laid on His head and the crown set on ours. –Thomas Watson |

I read the NLT in the morning and use it for a Bible study I lead. I use the NIV as my "church" Bible. I like the Message as a way of getting a different read on a passage.

The NRSV and ESV are my two favorite translations.

My church still uses the KJV. Most of the time, I do my personal devotions from the NASB. Occasionally another version like NKJV or ESV.

While I love the poetic language of the KJV, I prefer the NIV for study.

Our church uses the NRSV. I like the inclusive language. The TNIV reads nicely. The ESV is basically an evangelical rip-off of the RSV. I don't really care for it.

RE: AMP, ASV, CEV, ESV,HCSB KJB, NIV, QQX
I prefer the NIV, but I find myself now when I'm reading a verse, looking at 3-4 different translations trying to better understand it. I typically check KJV, The Message, and at least one other.
