I'm a long time lurker of this blog, but only recently registered for the forum.
I was raised up north as a Regular Baptist, attended a Baptist Christian school, not IFB. Met my dh in the Navy, and joined an IFB church when we moved to the south. Initially, the dress code for the Christian school made sense, because my Christian school had a dress code. Other rules still didn't seem too bad, compared to the Navy. But trying to raise kids that way, well got to the point when hubby said, "The church ISN'T the military and our home AIN'T a ship." So we left in '95 and did damage control on the older kids. We found another IFB church that wasn't quite so legalistic, but they invited the same travelling circus acts which exhibited more craziness. We eventually had to leave that. Now we have found good fellowship with Regular Baptists.

Welcome Jeri! Good to have you here. I grew up in the GARBC, and have taught in a couple of fundy Christian schools. It's funny how even the churches that aren't so legalistic themselves still have the crazies come in for special meetings.

yes we are silly at times and sometimes we argue politics..but it's all in good spirit! Glad you are here!

I grew up in a GARBC KJVO church, then went to BJU. I've seen some relatively balanced churches, but others that go off the deep end.

Welcome! Was your General Baptist church GARBC, Baptist General Conference, or something else? I grew up in a GARBC church, which wasn't as crazy as some IFB, but still called itself "Independent, Fundamental Baptist".
