Bean, I agree with a lot of your points. But ain't no way that's what he was referring to.

Thanks fmr marine! Appreciate that! Nice to hear when people can agree on even some things!

As to the statement, I guess that's what I read into it.
The larger message was that all of this INDIVIDUAL success is awesome and it's all possible in a country where we work together to build a nation. I thought that Fox News, Romney, et. al took an out of context quote, isolated it, and made Obama look like a fool.

But the fact is that we the people have built the nation's infrastructure. Without it, none of this would be possible...
Just my take on it!

RE: GOP insider: Religion destroyed my party
Everyone would agree that infrastructure - roads, highways, and bridges - are a pertinent and appreciated undertaking of government. Heck, hardcore far right conservatives don't just concede the point, they would limit the role of government to only that of infrastructure.

Obama took it much further than infrastructure. If you are successful, then you had a helping hand. If you own your own business, you aren't smarter and more hard-working than others. And even this might be technically true, but it sure does minimalize the risk, uncertainty, often long hours with little reward that goes along with the realities of small business ownership.

"You didn't build that" was a clarion call of class warfare meant to rile up the non-business-owner.

Um, Deadheads are Grateful Dead fans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadhead

In case you didn't know.

I already covered this tired joke on my blog, in January of 2011, long before we had the pleasure of arguing:

Quote:When the blue meanies in Blogdonia get nasty with me, they make fun of my official Blogdonia name. Sad

Airhead, Deadbrain, etc. "Your name is perfect!" they like to sneer at me. *sigh*

And so, my first short post for the new year (getting in shape for my new blog-habits, shorter posts! more often!) will be to EXPLAIN "Deadhead" (noun) and "Deadheading" (verb).

Yes, its such a cutesy little put-down, it ranks right up there with people who think I have never heard that PETA means "People Eating Tasty Animals"--yes, I've heard it, like ten thousand times before. You are far from original.

Putting down someone's screen name is usually their last hope in smearing anything that person says.

Okay... what happened? You used to quote her ideas here and now you are afraid to defend her? Did I imagine you saying you admired her? Because we had this argument before.

Do you suddenly NOT admire her then? Why are you suddenly afraid to talk about her? Why are you now disavowing your own words?

I take that as a win. Wink

When you mentioned Rand as your inspiration and said you admired her, you smeared yourself. I am merely bringing that to your attention.

Are you saying he didn't claim to admire Rand? Do I have to go back and find the thread and his posts for you to believe me?

The working people have had class warfare waged on them for the past thirty years. Yep.

Glad we agree about infrastructure. It is bigger than that though. What about good schools? Good teachers? A chance to go to college or trade school? Safe neighborhoods?

One could be like this guy in Georgia who admonishes the president to kiss his ____ on his sign. The LOL version is linked below.

Mominator, are you deliberately ignoring me because you can't answer me, or because I admitted I had once been a bus kid?

Never mind, I know the answer.

You say far more about your ideology with your elitism and snobbery, than I ever could.

Keep up the good work.

C-Fresh, ah, I found it! Here is the thread.
http://www.stufffundieslike.com/forum/sh...p?tid=4924

I see you are a Rand fan too, no wonder you jumped in.

Did you like Rand's THE VIRTUE OF SELFISHNESS? I happen to have it sitting here right in front of me. Smile What did you think about the two different Branden books I mentioned in that thread?

You both gushed all over yourselves, defending Rand. So let's talk about Rand, in that case, since you and Myotch admire her philosophy so much. (I made sure to quote the article's mention of her in my first post starting this thread, so it isn't a derail.)

Why are you now both embarrassed to defend her, when you immediately did in that thread? Have you changed your mind?

RE: GOP insider: Religion destroyed my party
I see no need to defend Ayn Rand for things I disagree with her on.

I see no need to defend myself for those things which I agree with Ayn Rand on.

It's fun watching you try to push buttons, though. It's like watching a monkey playing whack-a-mole.

His tone of voice in that speech shows he HATES the private sector and anyone who wants to be independent of the government and make a living for themselves.
