How many of your fundy acquaintances are still your Facebook friends?

I know what you mean. I used to add everyone on Facebook, from every job, class, and church I ever attended, but now I think that was pretty silly of me and I've been sweeping out my friends list every so often. And it surprises me how many members from my old IFB church who I never talked to are still there!

I had originally kept all my friends, and then I started dropping them gradually, mostly when I realized I never talked to them or interacted with them in any way. *shrug* The few I still have on my list are people I've known since I was a child or those who are fundy lite enough to live and let me live without jumping down my throat about it.

I still have a lot of fundy FB friends. Most are left over from my time in fundystan. I don't really do much on FB. I check it every now and again and that is about it. I make a policy of either deleting or blocking people if they post some especially awful stuff.
Of course, I can't delete everyone who posts awful stuff. Otherwise I would have to delete all of my family members. So, I just don't do much on there so I don't have to be exposed to the toxins.

I think I have two or maybe three people left on my list from those days. I've purged my friends list a number of times. What's interesting is that NOBODY from that part of my life ever tried to take up renewed contact. Not one. Yeah, they really love me and are concerned for me, eh?

I have some fundy "friends" but no one really close to me.

Tonight one of them posted a sketch, you've seen it, of the umbrella of God over the husband's umbrella over the wife's small umbrella with words that say "cares for children. manages house" or something like that.

My parents are fundies, but their fundiness is in beliefs, not legalistic actions. Their church is an exception to fundie-ville. I wear pants when I go there for special events and no one cares. They host the Reformers Unanimous each week and welcome the tattooed, the pierced, the long-haired.

I still have a small amount of fundies as friends. They keep me in the know as to what is happening in fundy land by posting articles, quotes, and comments about . . . let's see . . . Chik Fil A, Obama, Israel, how much their kids love Jesus (more than everyone else's), Socialism, the latest political darling of the Christian right, etc. And the pictures with judgmental, snappy sayings. Where do they get these? I have one fundy lite friend who posts them all the time. Like one I got today is a picture of a condom wrapper with a wedding ring coming out of it. It says "Safe Sex: Get Married and Be Faithful." Well, thanks, who knew it was that easy?? I'll be sure to pass that along to the myriads of single people languishing in the churches. And to all the teens who got pregnant because they weren't prepared for sex because they really, really, were planning on waiting for marriage. They had their purity rings and everything.

Okay, it's a simple little poster but it's very triggering for me. (I'm bitter! Deal with it!) I know how much shame, forced secrecy, and twisted thinking is behind that pithy little saying.

Anyway, I sort of appreciate the occasional glimpse into my old world. It reminds me of how far I've come.

None. Zero, zilch. And most of them were preachers or missionaries.

Wait, I just remembered. There is one guy. He is a missionary who runs a radio station in South America. He came to our church when we were in the midst of instituting praise and worship music.. He wept, saying that he loved the worship. He wasn't much of a fundy anyway. But supported by fundy lite congregations.
