I used to drop a friend off to such a group after school. She always made it seem like this super special soul enlightening experience. Several years later she admitted to me it was mostly a gossip group with some bible tossed in.

That's pretty funny! Sadly, a lot of groups are like that. Even sadder is that many churches have small groups, etc. and think they are doing discipleship.
