Economy sucks
Sitting here watching my schizo neighbor get evicted from her house. Four deputies, 6 "movers", and all her stuff at the edge of her yard.

8.254% unemployment.

Does it have to get worse before it has to get better?

RE: Economy sucks
I don't think there are any easy answers to fixing the economy, although I'm sure that some people will post their preferred solutions (as heard on talk radio) shortly.

RE: Economy sucks
I know it sucks in most of the country. Here in the upper midwest things are going pretty well. Hard to get help in places. Need a carpenter? Every one in the area is booked solid. The local city is trying to get some stuff done building wise and can't even get carpenters to bid on stuff.

The local factories are sending out glossy fliers trying to entice anyone who might know anyone looking for a job to come their way. 12.50-15 an hour to start with full benefits. One factory is sending a shuttle bus to a city 90 miles away for shifts!

RE: Economy sucks
Well, I don't know if this has been on talk radio or not, but we are a consumer-based economy. If people aren't in a buying mood, the economy shrinks.

Plenty of jobs when there were incentives for risk-takers, sure.

Plenty of jobs when credit was cheap, too.

Plenty of jobs = buying mood.

RE: Economy sucks
Here is the economic problem I haven't heard anyone talking about: Since 2010, we have had more people retiring than entering the workforce. Given historic birth rates, that trend is not likely to reverse until 2030. I suspect things will get worse before they get better.

RE: Economy sucks
On this we agree. Small business needs people with coin in their pocket.
Those people need decent, reliable jobs that pay a fair wage. When will the chattering class that supports these ridiculous tax cuts for the top 1% of our economy realize their "incentives" have done nothing other than allow the wealthy people to hoard money?

If we had an economic policy that strove to benefit the middle class instead of the "tinkled on" policies that have been epic failures for thirty plus years, we would not be having this discussion right now. Smile

RE: Economy sucks
I disagree. Its not like they're keeping it in their matresses. Money gets invested. Even if it only gets deposited in the bank that is still money that can be loaned out to people. Other forms of investing, like in a business, provide funds to the business allowing them to do stuff, including keep people employed.

RE: Economy sucks
All I know is those people who move an evictee's property from the house to the curb are bottom feeders. I guess it's honest work. It feels too close to blood money, though.

RE: Economy sucks
Are you concerned with the world economy, or only the American economy?
