"Evil" within the word "television"
Could it be said that fundies usually preach against the "evils" of television because the four letters "e-v-i-l" are in the word "television"? That just came to my mind as a possible rationale for their preaching, and I think it might lend a fresh perspective to their preaching.

It's kinda like what they do with the word Santa and make it into Satan.

I never heard preaching against TV until I did extension work at a Hyles church in Milwaukee where I heard stories of people taking their TV's outside and trashing them with bats 'cause they are so evil. Then the next Sunday, that same preacher would go to someone's house and watch the GB Packers.

The only thing I hate on TV is the stupid, loud commercials! Besides, there are only a few shows on that I like anymore. Sitcoms are all the same and all the others shows are about cops, lawyers or doctors. Well. I said more than I thought I would! I do a lot of Netflix!

Good response, and explains it very well! Thanks! Speaking of Netflix, my sister in 'Bama has a device called a Roku, and you can stream pretty much anything you want from it. I've seen several good things from it: Five-O, Murder, She Wrote, Voyager, etc. Eventually, such will supplant all the DVDs I've been bringing, IINM.

I always heard preached as "hellevision".

SFL - silly word games

Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

RE: "Evil" within the word "television"
The television offers a view outside the bubble, so it needs to be shut down. It's as simple as that.
