You're right, they hue closer to the bluegrass/pop sound that Alison Krauss is best known for (and she produced at least one of Nickel Creek's albums.) Hem has a really eclectic sound, but I hear a lot of early American music's influence. For instance, if they did an arrangement of "What Wondrous Love Is This" is would fit perfectly into their sound. Nickel Creek is "busier" while Hem tends to be quieter. If that makes any sense.

Have you heard Nickel Creek's music? It's somewhat similar to Hem's, but a little more blue-grassy and rural-ish. *feels inadequate to try explaining her perceived nuances of music to an actual musician*
