MLB All-Star Game//Home Run Derby
So is anyone who is a regular baseball fan going to watch the Home Run Derby tonight or the All Star Game on Tuesday? I'll have to thank the VBS Director for scheduling VBS during All Star Week, so I won't be forced to watch these events from having baseball withdrawls. When Chris Berman doesn't do the HRD, I'll watch again. He annoys me so much I can't watch. The ASG is so slow in its pace I find it hard to watch. With Interleague Play, seeing players from the other league isn't as special as it was.

I'll probably have them on as background noise. After Josh Hamilton's display in the HRD a couple of years ago, nothing really can measure up.

RE: MLB All-Star Game//Home Run Derby
The HRD is terribly overrated. It's batting practice, for goodness' sakes. And the first round goes on forever as one or two guys get really hot and crank out one after another. But by the end (3-1/2 hours later) the guys who were hot two hours ago can barely get 3 or 4 over the fence. And I will agree with Laura, Chris Berman at the HRD makes it that much worse. I like him on other things (he occasionally does baseball play-by-play on ESPN and is great) but his mockingly serious tone at HRD got old a dozen years ago.
That being said, baseball's ASG is by far the best game of the four major sports, and there isn't even a close second. Personally I would like it better if they shortened the rosters down to 25 or even 20 and got rid of the requirement to have every team represented. That would bring more strategy into the game and stop the endless lineup changes. And I am glad to see the game at KC this year. That is such a lovely ballpark and deserves the recognition. The biggest problem with the ASG is that it is on Fox and Tim McCarver is ALWAYS announcing. There is no announcer that drives me as batty and gets my "dander" up as quickly as Tim McCarver. The man shows his ignorance too often.
(Chris Collinsworth and Chris Berman are close seconds. As was Madden in his final year, although at his age it was forgivable and at least he stepped down.) "(1) Paul, Wikipedia expert, 06.10.2011" - Shoes Paul 4 Prez |
