The Wheel of Time Cycle by Robert Jordan

RE: The Wheel of Time Cycle by Robert Jordan
I'm listening to the audio books as I drive which helps. If I get bored I just think about something else for a few minutes and then tune back in when someone is getting spanked.

Whoops, I missed the spanking fetish. I did notice, however, the detailed and endless descriptions of women's clothing, all of which seemed low-cut and sheer and completely inappropriate for the amount of riding and walking these ladies were doing. Jordan writes like a beginner, who thinks more words is always, always better.

This review on Amazon sums up why I stopped reading the series.

EDIT: It's also worth nothing that I did not like ANY of the characters, except perhaps Birgitte and Aviendha. By the sixth book, they were all too angry, or too poor at communicating, or both.

All shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

By book 3 I'm beginning to think that it's intentional to draw out the length of the books. Otherwise the stories would take only about 100 pages.

I've actually liked the last two Brandon Sanderson's written better than Jordan's first 11. He's a better writer.

I started reading that series once. But I took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost :/

I liked David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean better. Even though after the first book or two you realise all the jokes are the same. And if you read any of the other series that he wrote you start identifying characters that you've read in a different book, just with a different name and appearance.

RE: The Wheel of Time Cycle by Robert Jordan
I've just started the Game of Thrones book, the first one. Right now it's better than Jordan's WoT, but I checked out reviews of later books on Amazon and it looks like it goes the same way: longwinded, dull, a bunch of unlikeable and minor characters.

So, those of you who have read more than the first: Should I bother reading on after I finish the first book? I don't want to sink two months into a never-ending series again.

Ummm, I guess I should also say I didn't write it, just found it about the time I quit the series. (Thought that was clear, but maybe it wasn't). It summed up my thoughts so perfectly that I saved the link. Tongue
