RE: I found this CareerCentral (BJU) job listing
I've tried as hard as I can, but I suppose by our current English definitions of "school" she has the right to call this such. We're getting into a slightly fuzzier area with "academy."

I would assume this is an unpaid internship. Hence the appeal to BJU's "unwavering" support, and the description of the job as "an excellent opportunity for independent work and responsibility."

What's most disturbing to me, though, is her je ne sais quo–that indefinable air of arrogance that drips slimely off the corners of her ad. Perhaps I'm getting an incorrect impression. But her constant reference to it as a "school" instead of to her family, her unnecessary description of getting accepted into Clemson, her expectation that her personal "academy" has only the highest standards of academics...I don't know what else. Perhaps her intial description, which almost sounds like a job application rather than a want ad. I just have the vague feeling this is someone I'd really rather not know.

Behold, what manner of love is this, that Christ should be arraigned and we adorned; that the curse should be laid on His head and the crown set on ours. –Thomas Watson

I specifically had the word pretentious in mind about two lines into the text. You pretty much summed exactly what I was thinking when I read and then posted this on here.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

One should not think of this opportunity in terms of filthy lucre, but one should see it for the rich ministry experience it will provide.

And you will get your reward in heaven.

There is at least one, possibly 2 sets of twins in this family.

I believe both parents are well educated, employed professionals. Based on that fact, I doubt there is a financial strain in paying for such a position, although its very curious that compensation is never mentioned. This family wasn't fundy when I knew them--we attended the same non denom church for awhile. The whole thing is very curious to me. Perhaps they went to the dark side.

The way it always was, is no longer good enough. You make me want to be brave. - Nichole Nordeman

Quote:Description
I am the headmistress of the Yenovkian Academy, a home school consisting of six female students (our daughters) ranging from ages 11 to seven. Since 2005, I have been the sole teacher with the exception of self-administered computer-based curriculum. Currently, our school is located in Virginia.

This month, I was accepted into Clemson University's one-year MBA program (classes will be held in Greenville). This program will require our school to temporarily relocate to South Carolina and will require me to be in class from 9 am until 2:30 pm every Monday through Friday. As a result, my students will be without their full-time teacher during this time.

Our school's motto is Via, Veritas, Vita (The Way, The Truth, and The Life). We seek to teach our students all subjects though the lens of God and his Creation. I believe this follows very closely with BJU's "Build Faith. Challenge Potential. Follow Christ.". The end goal of our academy is to educate our children to be assets to their community and lights of their God and to equip them to be ready for the opportunities God presents to them. We expect excellence from them academically.

I am reaching out to Bob Jones because of its outstanding academic and theological reputation and its unwavering support and encouragement of homeschooling. I am in immediate need of an intern who can assist in managing the academy during the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. While I will continue instructing my students on the weekends, the intern will oversee all schoolwork during the school day, grade papers, and assist in lesson planning for the week. Ideally, the intern will assist me Monday through Thursday each week, excluding Clemson and BJU school holidays.

This position is an excellent opportunity for independent work and responsibility. The ideal candidate must be dependable, independent, creative, prompt, organized, disciplined, self-starting, detail-oriented, energetic, loving, and fun. While I have selected the curricula our academy employs, the student intern is free to work "outside of the box" to encourage a robust learning environment.

This position may be filled by one student or it may be broken down hourly or by discrete subject by several students. For example, the math intern for one hour, the history intern for one hour, the literature intern for one hour, etc.

Because this is an all-female school, the student intern(s) also must be female. The position will be in Simpsonville. Classes at Clemson begin August 20, 2012; I will need this position filled by that date

This is terribly hilarious. A very wicked way to wrangle some young woman into babysitting her children while she gets her MBA.

RE: I found this CareerCentral (BJU) job listing
You know, when my brother and sister and I were homeschooled, we were technically "Discipleship Academy" because in LA you can register a homeschool as a private school and it makes everything way more easy and less accountable. No one in my family ever referred to us as Discipleship Academy or even just an academy, nor did my dad or mom ever refer to themselves as headmaster or headmistress, or even principal. Whoever used the word "pretentious" to describe the way this listing comes across hit the nail on the head. I would sincerely hope they would pay the intern who took this position, but you never know, since it isn't mentioned.

Forget the fear/it's just a crutch/that tries to hold you back/and turn your dreams to dust.

Oh, and I don't think I said this before, but I know girls here at Fundy U. that would take up this opportunity if scheduling would allow them to. Some people are like that, I guess: be willing to be trampled when you could get a job earning money to pay off this rising school bill.

You're right. We've been trained to deny ourselves, to serve others, and to see open doors as an opportunity from God instead of being wise about our time and our finances. If we can be a blessing to others, we think that that's what God must want us to do; we think taking care of our own needs is being selfish.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.
