Poll: Did I swear?
Yes, and you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself as unworthy of being a pastor's wife and mother.
Yes, but it's understandable.
Not really, but you know there ARE better words out there to use.
No. You should hear what I say to MY kids.

Mommy Has a Potty Mouth

RE: Mommy Has a Potty Mouth
The word you used was not a swear word and the obnoxious factor or vulgarity of the word was meant (I am attempting mind reading here lol ) I am sure as an attempt to let the seriousness of the situation get through. Sometimes saying things like 'you are hurting my feelings' or 'the way you are acting is disrespectful' is not enough to get someone to understand just how bad the behavior is. I would imagine you would not say that if all he was doing was lagging on putting his shoes away or if he was making faces at eating broccoli (although if that was the situation then I would also presume that it was not the first, second or even fifth time and the ongoing battle over it was something that was personal to you).

just my personal opinion.

If I were to remove every person, place or thing that offended me I would live in an empty and barren place and that would offend me.

PW,
You got his attention. You were acurate and brisk in your language. You have nothing to be sorry for.

I consider piss an appropriate word in context.

Obscenity and vulgarity can truly be mediums of art in the hands of the right artist.

I make a distinction between vulgarity and taking the Lord's name in vain. I think I can handle almost anything except taking the name of God (all parts) or Jesus' mother in vain. I think you made your point. I have a 17 yo who is your son a little older. Wish I knew the answer. I obviously don't.

RE: Mommy Has a Potty Mouth
I don't recognize 'swear' words because language is in a constant state of change. What is a swear word today tomorrow will not be and what is a swear word in one country is not in another even though they two countries might speak the same language.

It all started because the invading Normans wanted everyone to speak French and anything the Saxons spoke was 'vulgar'. It was a perfectly good language but was looked down on by the conquerors...so now we have 'good words' and 'bad' words because of that.

Once I understood that...words don't bother me. It came about because some people insisted on being 'snobby'.

However I don't use them because they are so trite and I do respect the sensibilities of those around me and am offended by the use of God's name being thrown out ... apart from that if you want to let loose I don't care.

RE: Mommy Has a Potty Mouth
so, out of the 27 people who've voted on this poll, 11 of them have said way worse things to their kids, myself included. PW, just chuckle and move on Big Grin

My daughter definitely knows which words she can't say around Grandma and at school, lol.
