Most Overrated Fundamentalists?
What fundamentalists are the most "overrated"?

What I mean by that is that they are famous but really have accomplished little, or have inherited ministries that they weren't cut out for. Or there was all name but little substance. Or perhaps you looked forward to them speaking because they were a fundamentalist pope yet they weren't all that special.

In my experience it would be Bob Jones II and III.

Dave Doran

Matt Olson

Les Olllila

Sam Horn

All a bunch of nobodies who think they are important because of the little circle of the truly righteous that they mingle in.

RE: Most Overrated Fundamentalists?
In Australia, Robert Bakss. He runs a pastors refresher school every year to teach other pastors. He is editor of a fundamentalist magazine. He has a school so he can brainwash young minds and an unaccredited college so he can brainwash old minds. He streams all his sermons so that people who live in a place that only has a mainstream denomination can go to a 'real' (ifb) church. His church think he must be all that because he gets asked to preach in churches in america.

He has a huge influence over the relatively young ifb church in Australia.

He was a lawyer before he became a pastor, yet he can't understand why those who have suffered greatly because of his terrible judgement actually expect him to obey the law.

Yes, Steven Anderson, enthroned by stupidity alone
Also, Jack Schaap, a man grasping and shameless enough to marry the boss's daughter and thus inherit the throne.

RE: Most Overrated Fundamentalists?
Does anyone from the south remember Maze Jackson? When I was growing up he would always come to preach a rip-roaring revival at Providence Road Baptist Church (Yes, the one with the pastor who wants to corral all the gay people into concentration camps) every year. The revival week would wrap up with a heavily promoted and well advertised Sunday mid-afternoon sermon (the special service of which my family usually attended) with a title reflective of what was most popular and talked about that year. I think I remember the first one being soon after the death of Elvis Presley titled "IS ELVIS IN HEAVEN OR HELL?". Also remember another year the BIG Sunday afternoon service being titled something like "DOES ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC CAUSE DEMONIC POSSESSION?" All week long during that revival they hype would really be cranked up about the grand finale sermon on the upcoming Sunday. I will say that every single time, it was always a let down for me. Since Providence Road wasn't the church of which my family were members, I was never able to determine if all the sermons were hyped up like that beforehand.

In Australia -

Gilbert Anger. Yes, he is funny, but every one of his sermons ends up being a guilt trip to enlist young people to go to the mission field, followed by a 20 minute invitation until someone "takes up the banner".

Grace means that God does something for me; law means that I do something for God. God has certain holy demands which he places upon me: that is law. Now if law means that God requires something of me for their fulfillment, then deliverance means he no longer requires that from me, but himself provides it.

Sam Gipp. Not nearly as clever or amusing or enlightening as he and his fans think he is. A huge proponent of the clergy/laity distinction. Calls people who attend church "pew warmers", even though he knows they aren't allowed to do anything but come to church and give lots of money.

And David Cloud, though I admit to only knowing him from the internet. He's been a big internet presence since 1996. He writes books on so many topics, it's obvious that he thinks he's an expert on everything, even while being guilty of mangling simple exposition numerous times.
