You'll have an awfully hard time though. I would definitely consider myself a seeker of truth and while I or anyone else may not have discovered it yet, that does not mean we can't say with certainty what is not true. It is not an insult. It fits the definition. The claims of the bible are demonstrably false. Holding a belief in the face of invalidating evidence is delusion. It's not my definition. |

Psychiatirc delusions are pathological and generally indicate mental illness. Unless you are saying that all Christians throughout history have suffered from pathological delusion. Do you believe I am delusional? All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. |

Our delusion may cause us to walk into supermarkets with C4 and roofing nails strapped to our chest? Sorry, the Muslim extremist board is the next one over -Yeesh! Belief in God and terrorism are two completely different things. Yikes! Is there violence in the name of religion - yes. There is also violence in the name of country. As a former marine you can attest to that. While not all patriotism leads to mass murder, the same cannot be said for other people's patriotism. Therefore, patriots are delusional. These are situations where patriotism is harmful to society as a whole. Wow, this blanket principle stuff really works. Babies must die in order to receive stem cells for which to use in the research. I noticed you just blew right past the murder since that doesn't fit your neat definition "in the name of religion" and is a deeper moral issue based on the how society treats the dignity of human life. Dignity of human life and how we treat others within society transcends religion. "Preach always, sometimes use words" - St. Francis of Assisi |

That is the part of the research Christians are opposed to. In cases of adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells you will see no argument from the Christian community since those do involve the creation, treatment and destruction of human embryos. There have been millions of followers of Christ who have indeed believed the Bible. It is a difficult thing to denounce "someone who quotes the words of men but says it's the word of God". This Jesus person who communicated via man made transcribed text still impacts society today. While your simple questions fain philosophical discussion, it comes off as more "I'm the smartest guy in the room and you all are delusional idiots". Nice try though. The contradictions in the bible are numerous and well documented. We can get in to it, but it would take a lot of time and typing. We can demonstrate that prayer does not work and is ineffective despite what it says in the bible, we can demonstrate that the bible contains a lot of unscientific nonsense. |
