We hoped our kids would learn to play, and we had room on the truck, so we took it. People said we were crazy. Now I understand why. For a number of reasons, piano lessons never happened, and now we want the space back. We've tried to give it away, but so far, no takers. One family in our present church said they wanted it, but when it came down to actually getting a truck and moving it, they lost interest. It's a Hallet and Davis full-size upright, built in Boston in 1915. It would be worth a lot of money if it were restored, but only to a collector, and restoration would cost a lot of money that we don't have, even if we could count on selling it at a profit. It would probably be okay for a kid just starting out on the piano, if his parents couldn't afford better (which is why we got it) but it would need some repairs if he got serious about playing. Mostly, there is cosmetic damage, finish worn or damaged, a few keys missing ivory) but there are a few keys that sound a little "off" not off-pitch, but the tonal quality doesn't sound quite right compared to the adjacent keys. In short, we don't expect to get much, if anything, for it, but we can't afford to pay to get rid of it. (04-23-2012 04:08 PM)greg Wrote: I've been lying about being a cop, I just lie all the time. |

RE: How do you get rid of a piano?
In one of my favorite books 'Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?', Eddie asks the same question;
"It took my father, two uncles, four quarts of beer and a sprained backed to get the piano down to the basement. When I asked how i was going to get it back up, he handed me a simple answer. An axe." Some people get cool hallucinations that tell them to kill people. Mine just try to get me into trouble. Paul Southworth |
