Where I can agree with the feminist movement, I will, and fervently so.

But, in regards to "reproductive rights", feminism has largely become a caricature. Midwives and c-sections aren't what come to mind when the issue of feminist reproductive rights is invoked. And I don't think that's anyone else's fault but theirs

No, I understand that. And sadly, birth rights have been terribly neglected by feminists, to a great extent, which is why they are in the state they are in.

But enough of that. This is about paycheck disparity, not reproductive rights. Wink

I can't help but be a little bit amused. By your rationale on racial discrimination, shouldn't the government just let the invisible hand of the market sort out this pay disparity stuff?

Perhaps, redbeard.

If a company has a corporate culture of misogyny, why would women want to work there in the first place. My rationale in regards to discrimination was between customer and owner, mostly. There is a fundamentally different relationship between proprietor/customer and employer/employee.

I guess the similarity *could be* that if a customer is offended, the business could be boycotted, and if the employee was offended, the employer could lose her service.

RE: Paycheck Fairness Act
Maybe I am terribly cynical, but to me the "Paycheck Fairness Act" is this week's Democratic version of last week's Republican gender abortion bill- an election-year political stunt. Not one of the Democratic senators who supported the bill suspected it would pass filibuster, just like the House Republicans knew their gender abortion bill had no chance in the Senate. These stunts just provide fodder for the cable news channels and talk shows and bloggers to talk about for a couple of days and give one side the chance to lob grenades at the other side.

Thoughts?

I have not read the bill. I cannot comment. And it appears that everyone in this thread is merely discussing the aspects of pay disparity that interests them.

I agree, they are connected. and the false dichotomy drawn by feminism is why they have not made more progress, because they only represent a group of women, not all women.
