Really? So the rest is just filler?

yes, surely you have heard the many sermons on on how much money is referred to in the NT, so its obviously very important to God.

btw, sorry about the bad math

I am who I am. The rest is your problem.

RE: The Truth About Tithing
The discussions about tithe talk about the increase of your fields and flocks, not about giving 10% of your gross wages to the local church in the form of money to do whatever they want with it. I know how preachers come to this conclusion, but it is an invalid way to teach a truth. They string together numerous proof texts and make it into a law for the New Testament Christian. Even my conservative evangelical pastor does it and it makes me shudder when he brings it up. Paul made it simple, and for me, I like to find the latest statements in the New Testament that apply to a topic.
1 Cor 16
On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

This is talking about one particular church gathering money for an offering to take to the poor in Jerusalem.

And probably the latest mention is in 2 Cor.
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

This text says "listen to God speak to you individualy."

And the text in Matt 23:23 is talkng about tithing on the increase in your fields, not all commerce, and certainly not on all your wages and benefits like some teach.

God may direct some people to decide in their heart to give $5 a week. He may direct others to give $1000/week. And we are not to judge them. Romans 14:4 says says Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls.

That is all I have to say.
