Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

I don't think we have a thread dedicated to auto racing, so I'll start this one.

I enjoy all forms of motorsports. I have been to Montreal for Formula 1 races and would like to go to the US race in Texas later this year. I have attended multiple NASCAR events over the years (my favorite was Charlotte). Always try to tune in on TV whenever there is a race on.

This Memorial Day Sunday is shaping up as follows:

The day starts at 8 am watching the Formula 1 race from Monaco.
At noon, the Indy 500 takes center stage.
After the Indy race, NASCAR's Coke 600 closes out the day.

So any other race fans out there?

I've done some dirt track Kart racing for a friend of mine who makes lots of money doing it. He's got 3 or 4 of those fast go-karts and they can HAUL! Big Grin

I'd love to take my fastest motorcycle to a track some day.

I guess racing interests me most when I can do it myself as opposed to just watching it (although I'd prob enjoy watching it too).

Yes. Karting (not just go-karts) is awesome. I have raced those myself on indoor tracks. It is amazing how fast they go.

Yes. Karting (not just go-karts) is awesome. I have raced those myself on indoor tracks. It is amazing how fast they go.

Yeah it felt like NASCAR when I was driving them! Tongue

We had to wear a heat sleeve because the engine was right next to where you sit in them. These ran on methane gas and the throttle was really responsive.

I saw a guy in front of me wipe out into the wall so hard that his front right axle snapped off and went flying down the track! Confused

These karts didn't have "bumpers" on them like go-karts so when you hit something it destroys the fiberglass shell and wheels.

Eve of Destruction every year just down the road. And we sometimes get the Pyrotechnics guild down here too. I can sleep through anything, including earthquakes.

You'd have to pay to get in, and that ain't happening. There was a dirt racing track about 10 miles away from where I grew up, and we could hear the cars on Saturday nights when the wind was blowing right. Maybe that's why the sound is so soothing to me.

I'd hardly say that a racing monster truck engine would be anything close to "soothing" unless you're deaf! Tongue

Perhaps if you're miles away then it's no big deal but them things are F*cking loud! Big Grin
