State of Origin
Well, on my facebook newsfeed I'm reading a lot of posts that say "QUEENSLANDER!!!" right now. I'm not really into sport, and I know none of you guys will get it, but this is the biggest sporting event of the year around here, so I figured I'd fill you in.

State of Origin is an annual contest for Rugby League Football between the states of NSW and QLD. The point of it is that most NRL clubs are in NSW, so Qld was finding and training up great new talent, and then NSW was buying them, and then in state matches NSW would do better. So they brought in the idea of the state of origin, which means that you could get chosen to play for the side that you originally played competition football for. So players who would normally play for a NSW team, yet originally played for a QLD team, would have to play on the QLD side for state of origin - and may well be playing against their usual team mates.

There are three matches, and the winner is the state that wins two of the three games. Queensland has won for the last six years I think. Tonight is the first game of the series. I won't bother watching it, but I'm sure my newsfeed will be full of notices about it, and I sure hope the right side wins.

I think it is cool. My introduction to Rugby was from the movie Invictus. I know it wasn't Australian or New Zealandian, but it wa fascinating nonetheless. I wish I could get this series on the television.
