Ok, before I completely go bat sh!t crazy on a former student, someone tell me if I'm over-reacting. Her FB status says, "My girlfriend's husband fights for your freedom. Best. Bumper sticker. EVER" It took me a second to get it (long day, lol) but this seems unbelievably immature and heartless. My 2 brothers have been deployed a total of 4 times and while their wives were very supportive, they both have buddies who have received "Dear John" letters and I know the subconscious fear that someone might be willing to step in and take their place while they were gone.
ONTH, she's 21 and young and stupid. I suppose I could cut her some slack but, whatever you think of our country's involvement, we should support our soldiers, Marines, etc. and this is just wrong.

I agree.

It's a tasteless joke.

RE: rage
I am not sure I get it. What is wrong with that status? I might just be thick here.

The former student is a girl, but the owner of the bumper sticker is presumably a guy, not a girl.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

"My girlfriend's husband." Meaning: I'm dating a girl who is married and I'm banging her while her husband is deployed and fighting for your freedom.
There are lots of these out there: "Your boyfriend thinks I'm hot" etc., but this one IMO is particularly tasteless.

RE: rage
Yeah. Not funny at all.

I think I'll get all Biblical on her: "Fools mock at sin" (Prov. 14:9) and "they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them" (Romans 1:31-32).

Thinking adultery and unfaithfulness is funny is incredibly immature and foolish and when it is done to mock soldiers serving our country overseas, it is heartless.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

RE: rage
Would she like it as much if it said "My boyfriend's wife is fighting for your freedom." Would she put it on her car?

Yeesh! That is just nasty. But, like you said, she's young and might not realize just how nasty it is. IMHO, I would take her aside and point it out privately. Sometimes a word at the right time can help someone grow up.
