All of which is great unless you are dealing with a church that is known to hide predators from the law or with predators who have had their records expunged. Can't remember if this particular church or not has had this issue tho...

My off-the-cuff guess would be that you are seen as a project for someone. Confused

I agree. If the church is known to hide predators, then it is by definition never EVER a safe place. Expunged records are harder to deal with Sad.

Do you want her to believe that her value begins and ends with her reproductive organs?

Do you want her educational and career choices curtailed to things that will condemn her to excessive dependency on men or to poverty if she tries to make it "on her own" in the "approved" paths.

I have no history with Hyles or Schaap, but if you listen to no other advice PLEASE consider this.

What kind of woman do you want your daughter to be? A truly strong woman knows who she is and Who's she is--regardless of the attention, approval or affection of men (and other women too.)

The way it always was, is no longer good enough. You make me want to be brave. - Nichole Nordeman

Sorry to bring this up again, but in light of recent events, I wondered if techmedic was still here. Apparently the warning to watch his daughter may mean there was a lot more going on than the so far one reported incident.

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
Thanks for reviving the thread.

I don't have time to read back through all the comments right now, but the title alone makes me think: "Jack Schaap ... Why so hated?"

I truly think that God's Spirit can give people discernment. We could hear his sermons and see his demeanor and just KNOW that something was off. It could be the Spirit; it might be just normal intuition and reasoning. But his true self was not as hidden as he seemed to think it was. What has just been revealed to his church and PROVED was only what many people already saw behind the "holy" and arrogant facade he had put on.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

It is called Biblical Wisdom. Have no association with an angry man, etc.

WOW! This is probably the best summary of "A Proverbs 31" woman I've ever read. True. True. True.

And I'm very sure that you are definitely a project for someone! People who are "different" are not simply welcomed as they are w/o being noticed and accounted for.

The biggest thing that can be asked at this (and any church) is "Where did you get that in the Bible?" My sister's ex-fundy church had a pastor who preached that closet doors were evil b/c no one should have any secret or hidden areas in their life or home......so anyone in the church who knew what was good for them removed all the closet doors!!!! (thankfully, my sister has since stopped drinking the koolaid!)

And we all have a Jiminy Cricket in our minds...........if something sounds creepy, it probably is creepy!! The sex/communion thing alone would be enough evidence!!

We are really not trying to be haters, but we hate how some churches/organizations have simply ruined people's lives, even if it wasn't necessarily ours. When so many people have been under the influence of these fundy preachers at various churches all say the same thing ("RUN!!!!), it's because we want to help others before it's too late.

WOW! This is probably the best summary of "A Proverbs 31" woman I've ever read. True. True. True.

The Prov. 31 woman owned her own business and bought and sold property on her own. I don't think I'd say she never had power or authority of her own, nor do I think I'd say her value was only in her reproductive organs. I know some fundies try to make the Prov. 31 woman sound like some kind of mealy mouthed "submissive" woman, but that is not the impression I get of her at all. I'm seeing more of a Deborah or Jael type of woman here ... and I don't think anyone could call Deborah or Jael powerless or submissive.
