One doctrine already alluded to here is his view that taking Communion/Lord's Supper/Lord's Table is equal to having sex with God. His belief is that a Christian received Christ's body in the same way a woman receives her husband's body.

"Psalm 119:30 says, "I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me." That word laid is a sexual term which literally means the same thing as a man laying with a woman. God was saying that God's laws should be as intimate as a marriage partner in a sexual liaison." Marriage The Divine Intimacy, Hyles Publications 2005. Page 44 pp2

"In the next verse, David gets more graphic. "I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame." that word stuck means "the act of a man entering his wife"; it is sexual intercourse. God says that the Word of God should be the Christians lover, and nothing should be closer to him than the Bible. The Words of God are supposed to be the most intimate lover of his life." Marriage The Divine Intimacy, Hyles Publications 2005. Page 44 pp3

And that is just one small portion of his nonsense.

I laid the table for dinner last night. I laid my kids' schoolwork out for them this morning. I laid the clean laundry on everyone's beds so that they could put it away. I stuck stickers on everyone's rewards charts. I shudder to think what Schaap would make of my activities.

The man's sick.

Oh and I listen to Metal...and am not ashamed to say it

Metal and tattos puts you back next to heathen and reprobate. You will never fit in until you publicly renounce and remove/hide the tatoos and publicly renounce metal/country/rocknroll/pop. And after you do this, there will be something else that will disqualify you. In fundyland, being accepted is a moving target, expect to miss.

God has been faithful and loving me for over 18000 days. I think that He will be faithful and loving to me today.

My dad had to get rid of his entire pristine record album collection (Classic rock) and eventually get his tattoos lazer removed while we were in Fundyland. You can expect to hear from them on those obviously "worldly" outer features. Wink I do remember you mentioning Schaap's reaction to those a while back.

Fundamentalism no longer has a hold on me - I'm free!

Yes I did read that somewhere and it was a little strange to me. I have a pretty open mind and can usually see someone elses point of view.. but that I couldn't wrap my head around.... Maybe that's why the book is out of print now.

I found it a lot strange--not just "a little." And I think it speaks to some sort of psychological defect on his part that he went there.

Schaap has never renounced his weird creepy views on sex & communion being basically the same, so I assume he still has those weird creepy views. Letting the book be out of print isn't the same as renouncing the opinion in it.

He also says that it will be a cold day in hell before he ever listens to theology from a woman, and he talks about slapping grandma. He's elitist, sexist, violent, and crass in his sermons.

Everyone there will treat you amazing since you're new. They introduce the wilder beliefs after they've gotten you emotionally attached.

The sheer size of FBCH provides a lot if diversity, even within some of the 'inner circle'. There are some very sincere people there, and some fakes. You can go there for years without seeing the nastier side of things, depending on how involved you are and who you're hanging around.

How Schaap rubs me the wrong way:

He turns the commission to preach "boldly" into preach "arrogantly".

I don't hate him, and if I were IFB, I probably would like him more. But, I prefer not to surround myself with irritatingly arrogant people, much less allow them to influence me.

The Ark was built by a lone amateur, and the Titanic was built by an impressive group of professionals.

This is MY OPINION... In the meetings I have had with Jack (one in my home and the others in the church) he is one of the nicest people that I have ever met. He seems sincere and really seems to care about people. I have been trying to figure this out by reading everything I can about him but am lost. Maybe you guys/gals can shed some light on this for me.

Because he is obnoxious. I heard him in chapel at HAC and other times and he is full of himself. No disrespect to you, just my opinion of him.

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
Every time I hear him speak (teach, preach, whatever), I hear manipulative lies cleverly woven in with biblical truth. Every. single. time.

What I dislike even more is that no one will stand up to his lies at that church. <---major reason why I left

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
Interesting...
I've been watching for some of that, there have been a few WTF moments but nothing I was not able to brush off. Now I must admit he does bring up sex quite often which I did find strange the first time I heard him bring it up, I was raised Catholic and they never brought up sex in church (maybe talking about adulterers but nothing graphic). There were a few times I was kinda uncomfortable (and I'm pretty tough) about what he was saying.
Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions, or maybe I'm turning a blind eye....or maybe (hopefully this is NOT it) I'm starting to get some of the brainwashing. I just really don't know what to watch for, and would like some guidance I suppose, this is all very new to me.
