Ive already explored tithing and come up with a great balance on the subject. Im thirsty for more! When I left Hephzibah House, I studied Psalms and circled all the words like joy, blessed and loved. I even circled all those words when I came across in that book of the Bible. Study about God's love for you and let the Scripture work through the Holy Spirit. It takes a while to learn the difference between real conviction and false guilt. I still struggle with this and I've been outta there for almost a decade. Trust your gut. If it doesn't jive, stop yourself and ask God. God loves us right where we are at and he doesn't want an external based Christianity like the IFB does. |

But I do believe God's Word and His Spirit will guide us especially as we study the Scripture and stay humble. Great post! ![]() I think I learn so much more when I just spend time in my Bible alone in the morning and for years this was hard for me b/c I had three kiddos right in a row and I home school. I have been able to get back into this. I also started doing a Journal again not b/c I feel like I have to but b/c I want to. Writing out my thoughts, which according to God he knows already Psalm 139) helps me a lot. That way I'll have a record of my journey and can read it again. |

Decision Making and the Will of God by Garry Friesen
Outside of the Bible itself, it was the greatest book I ever read. It started me on my path out of the IFB mindset. Basically, the whole "God has a perfect will for your life that God will progressively reveal to you which will lead you to a specific career (such as the ministry) and a specific companion (your spouse)" does not exist. It is not Scripturally warranted in any way. "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." |
