Minecraft
Since we don't have a game thread (hint hint) I'm posting this in TV & Movies since they are on screens.

Who here plays minecraft?

My brother got me hooked. He's learned how to add mods and has been experimenting with modifying code, adding recipes, etc.

I'd really like to have a go at multiplayer but don't have the knowhow or a decent computer to do run an MP server. My laptop gets hot just playing SP. From recent FB and SFL Shoutbox comments it sounds like there are quite a few of us. A multiplayer for SFL folks would be pretty cool.

Also, if you just like SP, what is your playing style? Building stuff, exploring, survival, or some combination.

RE: Minecraft
I used to play Minecraft. It sort of died off for me when I defeated the enderdragon, in the middle of the semester. I wasn't any good in multiplayer. I mostly enjoyed the SP survival and building cool bases and railroad tracks between them.

RE: Minecraft
You should check out mods. My brother put a set together that includes Industrialcraft, Buildcraft and Forestrycraft. Bunch of other stuff but those are the largest ones.

RE: Minecraft
My husband and I both play on occasion--a lot less since our daughter was born. I enjoy it, though!

RE: Minecraft
Ack. I downloaded the client and am trying to log in, and it says that it can't connect to minecraft.net Sad

Ok. I'm in. Funnily enough, I played it in the browser, and then it let me play offline because I'd played it in the browser.

RE: Minecraft
Ok, HELP! (Are you sick of me yet?)

I have built a little dirt hovel. It keeps me safe at night. I've got a furnace and a crafting table in there. Now I want to make my little hovel a larger hovel. If I just move the walls out, though, my furnace and crafting table will be in the middle of the room. And that will annoy me. Is there any way to pick them up and move them? Sorry. I have checked the wiki but I can't find anything on it. Although I've read stuff that say if you find a chest in a cave, make sure you take the chest with you, not just its contents. So that made me think you can.

RE: Minecraft
Yes. You can break them just like any block and move them. I often carry a crafting table and furnace in my inventory to use when I'm exploring.

I have a couple of worlds in which I build. One is a survival world. I built a medieval castle and an orchard in that one. Then a friend and I played in it and I build a nuclear shelter and he built a ufo being attacked by a tie fighter. So, timeline consistency was then gone. lol The creative world I'm currently working in is going to be a Western town. At one point, we had a mp world in which we were working toward facing the enderdragon, but for some reason, we never got that far. We had everything up to that point completed, but never did finish the story. We did, however, build a bunch of hell portals and create a number of hellstone buildings around our otherwise tame world. Best thing about my hellstone house was the fact that I could set the entire roof on fire. haha

RE: Minecraft
Thank you. I thought that might be it but wasn't game to try, in case I just lost it.

RE: Minecraft
I don't usually read SFL over the weekends so I'm just getting to this. Yes, furnace and table are moveable. Furnace may need to be broken with a pick but I'm not positive. If you are playing with hostile creatures on, you should probably consider a stone building a couple of blocks thick (creeper protection).

The industrialcraft mod adds some really fun stuff. My personal favorite is the diamond-tipped drill. Mining gets a whole lot faster/easier once you have one of those! Yesterday, I built a chainsaw which was kind of funny. I don't currently have any type of shelter since I'm playing on peaceful. Found two gigantic oil wells with gushers about 20 blocks high. Normally, they are only like 3-4. I went down inside one with a quantum helmet so I could breathe and the bottom well was probably a good 20 block sphere. Found a crack and went through it and ended up dying in lava because the game got so laggy that I couldn't turn around and get away. Sad
