I meant the same person. I said to my husband it would be easier to replace HIM--the husband--than the stylist! I was only half joking. Heck, I've had the same hair stylist longer than I've known my husband. I also have had good hair consistently for the only long time period in my life. Lots of stylists before have wreaked havoc on my fine hair. Usually because they insisted on putting in way too many layers thinking that would make it appear fuller. It doesn't. It just makes it unmanageable.

Plus, I adore my now former stylist as a person and will miss him.

Ooooohhhh! rofl! I thought maybe one cut your hair and one styled it, and I was trying to think how that worked ... Heh.

I think that may happen if you get a $500 haircut. But I've certainly not been paying that! Although, my mother and I were going to the same guy and since she can't drive anymore, getting appointments at the same time and she's been paying now and again. So now I'm going to have to pay myself as she is trying out someone new in the same salon and I'm planning on going to a family friend (of the in-laws) closer to home.

My worst problem, it turns out, is going to be finding someone good to wax my eyebrows. The guy I'm going to try doesn't do waxing.

I had a friend who managed to get in to see Nick Arrojo (I think is how you spell his name), and his prices were about that. I think he did both the cut and the style, though. She said it was amazing. I'm cheap. I do chain salons, and that's that, lol.

I was paying $25 for shampoo, cut and style; extra $10 for eyebrow wax. My husband gets his hair cut at Great Clips (chain) and if you just want a cut there it is cheaper. If you want shampoo w/conditioner and blow dry without a style--it's about the same and if you want a style, too, it is more. And the guy I'm going to try charges the same as I paid before. Both of them do free bang trims between cuts, too. I've been getting a cut every 12 weeks and I took my mom every 6 weeks for hers and got a bang trim then. So this is all going to become inconvenient now. I'll still take her every six plus go elsewhere for myself.

I will not go back to a chain. I've had horrid experiences. When I was 14, a woman cut my hair so short ( a good three inches less all the way around than what I asked for) that I was quite literally mistaken for a boy for weeks (I was an ironing board back then). I have had my hair layered to unmanageable shreds in those places because "It's fine hair, it needs layers". I have had perms over processed leaving me with dry brittle breaking off hair. No way in hell will I go through any of that again. I know the guy I'm going to go to. He has been a friend of my husband's family for years. He quit doing hair for awhile and still did my mother-in-law's at his house for her, but recently returned to a salon full time. As a plus, he has also been an ally to me with my sister-in-law. He shared with me that when she told him about her trip to see our priest and stop my wedding, he told her she was ridiculous and it was long since past time for her to "grow the f*ck up". He also was a volunteer with the organization I worked with last year in Holocaust education, so we found ourselves doing stuff together for that.

RE: Hair care
Natalie, I need advice again. I'm starting to flat iron my hair almost daily. I am out of shampoo so I'm trying to find out what I should buy. I have no chemical treatments, no color, highlights or anything. The humidity is slightly less here in the land of Mickey now that its only 89 degrees most days. We are on one income, so I need something that won't break the bank. Any advice you can give would be great. I'm also considering a side bang. Haven't made up my mind, I have until Tuesday to decide.

PS. The guy who cuts my hair used to be Tigger. How cool is that?

Pay attention people! WifeofBill knows of which she speaks Big Grin - Scorpio

I love to read and hear stories of people who were characters at Disney.

With your hair, just pick a shampoo meant for smoothing the hair, but most importantly, get some conditioner on those ends. That's what you want to protect during the flat ironing. Let the conditioner sit on the hair for 2-5 mins and then rinse with cool water. If you want to also do a leave-in conditioner, you can, but focus on those ends.

You don't have to buy something expensive. Just find something in your price range. Sally's has some great generics.

Hope this helps. Smile

RE: Hair care
I homeschool, and don't get out much. Rolleyes So I can sometimes go 2 days between washing. But like Kim G. my hair gets oily, so I've started using dry shampoo. It's a total lifesaver!

If you like to make your hair big, spray some dry shampoo on where you're going to tease, then tease away. Your hair will touch the ceiling. Tongue
