spiritual discernment
Okay, what do you guys make of this. For instance, ive heard a preacher call a man or woman out and tell them to go to the alter and pray for a particular sin.
Ive especially seen this with sammy allen. I mean he is touted as being the most sensitive man in america, a has a great deal of spiritual discernment. from his own testimony he has been filled for the last 50 years. could this discernment actually be attainable. I would like to think that ive discerned thing before, like an evil spirit or someone that has sin in there life, but im not so sure anymore.

RE: spiritual discernment
You should have discernment to decide what YOU need to sort out in your own life, and who you follow and allow to have a position of authority in your life.
The idea that you would want to have that level of control over someone else, that you think God would gossip about their sins so you can publicly call them out is disgusting. I don't know who Sammy Allen is, but I wouldn't doubt he'll be very surprised when he stands before the Lord. Our love is the digital transfer of information ![]()

RE: spiritual discernment
Sammy is a prime example of the IFB cult preacher.
I have seen other pulpit con artists call people out for sin as though God revealed it to them. And the sheeple sit in awestruck wonder at this demi-god's discernment and how holy they are. Often it is tied to Acts chapter 5. Just like Ananias and Sapphira the pulpiteer calls out the offender. I sat under one of these shysters, he came out of an area in NC where Sammy Allen was very nearly worshipped. Sammy Allen, Phil Kidd and a host of these types regularly held Camp Meetings, Revivals and what in the area. The one I sat under learned this particular lesson from them and used it to call out "sin in the camp" at church one year. He built it up over several sermons that the Lord was revealing to him there was sin in the camp. There was one who was in an adulterous relationship and when it was made public the church was like, "Wow, he is filled with discernment!" The truth was that he had inside knowledge on what was going on and used it to his advantage. I doubt that slobbering Sammy spewing out his showers of blessing is any less informed about the specific sin of someone in the congregation when he calls someone out like that. It's really no different than the Benny Hinn schtick they all love to preach against. It's done as a trick to make the people think they are more spiritually intune with God, so that what they say while in the pulpit is direct revelation from the throne of God. And that my friend is how you fill an altar call. "There is no worse heresy than the fact that the office sanctifies the holder of it.” -from Lord Acton's Axiom “Yippee ki-yay, Mother Fundamentalist” |

"could this discernment actually be attainable."
No. It's hype and showmanship, along with a strong degree of psychodynamic (and/or group dynamic) manipulation. |

Or the Buddha, or the Dalai Lama, or any other revered religious figure who is seen as very wise and discerning in other traditions but is all "demons" according to them. Ah, but THEIR schtick is GOD? Um, no. I *do* believe that God gives people discernment, and wisdom and good sense. It's not the kind of thing that gets thrown around from pulpits, though. It's about mature, thoughtful, contemplative walking with God and loving your fellow humans. |

RE: spiritual discernment
The man probably has plenty of disciples more than ready to pass on any gossip or information that they hear. IMO, there is nothing spiritual about this, it's just another bully looking for a new way to control the congregation.

RE: spiritual discernment
it seems then that when they claim sin in the camp, its usually something so general, that it could fit any church group. my pastor usuall gets a wierd kinda look on his face like he senses something, like he has got the discernment.
ONthe other hand, sammy is much revered in our church by our pastor and others, his name is mentioned almost every service. and my pastor in the last year or two started doing that spasm thing sammy does when he gets in the spirit. its so poser

RE: spiritual discernment
