Im not saying they couldn't, im saying theres a huge cognitive-dissonance. I was just listening to a talk between lawrence krauss and richard dawkins, and LK related the story of an astronomer, whom he knows to believe, "in private", the universe is 6000 years old. Its complete crackpottery. i wouldn't trust someone like that to be any good in their profession. But if YOU want to be taught by someone who believes 2+2=5 on the days she's not a math teacher, by all means, take her!

Believing in God isn't really analogous to believing 2+2=5 or the universe is 6000 years old. Both of the latter two are directly related to their chosen field of study. Believing in both of those would affect their ability to teach. Believing in God does no such thing.
