Jack Schaap Exposed
Jack Schaap pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond has his own version of Joseph and Mary. This is what he said in a recent sermon:

Independent Baptist pastor Jack Schaap has his own version of events of which he is just as certain. You were probably not aware that Mary was an old woman--an old maid, and Joseph was a broken down old man. ‘Extra-biblical readings tells us that Joseph died at 110,’ Schaap says. Mary and Joseph thought they’d never get married and were lucky to find each other. Joseph had been looked over by a lot of girls. ... he lived in a shack’; he was ‘a nobody who was looking for anybody, and he found her....Mary.’ She ‘might not have been the catch of the year’; she was ‘one of those unclaimed blessings ... middle aged, wrinkled, stoop shouldered, hair falling out.’ You doubt this version of the story? ‘Facts are funny things,’ Schaap counters. Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5,6 and Revelation 22:18 are serious warnings about adding to God’s word, and providing mythical embellishments in sermons should be taken very seriously. With Christmas myths abounding, let those of us who love the Lord and his Word cling close to the Bible and not forsake the plain truths we find there.”

A bizarre fictional account of an aged Joseph and an old and homely Mary.

I never thought I'd see a thread with "Dr Sum Guy exposed" in the title at SFL Smile

Are you secretly Steven Anderson? Tongue kidding

But Schaap is a nut. I think someone posted the video of the sermon he gave this in.. it was a few years back.

From that description of Mary, it's a cinch Schaap and his father-in-law would have certainly passed on her.

I dare not fix with mete and bound The love and power of God. - J.G. Whittier

RE: Jack Schaap Exposed
Well, we all know that God wasn't very thorough in writing His word. He could have made it so much more exciting; could have made Himself look so much more important and powerful if He'd just thought about more carefully before He started writing. I mean, yeah it's pretty good that David beat Goliath, but it sounds so much better when you reduce David from a tall, strong young man already known as a "man of war" to a 10 year old. It just makes God so much Godder, don't you think? Same thing here. I mean, anybody could cause a virgin to become pregnant. But a making a 50+ virgin get pregnant, now THAT really takes some power.

Behold, what manner of love is this, that Christ should be arraigned and we adorned; that the curse should be laid on His head and the crown set on ours. –Thomas Watson

Yup, when you turn 50+, you might as well walk yourself to the glue factory...I bet the older ladies and gents got a real good idea of what their "Pastor" really thought of them.

I clicked on this thread with much fear and trepidation.

I'm glad it wasn't what I thought it was.
