Christian pledges
I hate them (pledge to the Christian flag and to the Bible), but the school where I work requires we recite them... not because anyone at the school cares, but because a parent complained that we didn't do it.
Ugh. |

RE: Christian pledges
I do them during Vacation Bible School every day, and that's enough for me. I could see where doing the pledges daily would get really old.

RE: Christian pledges
I don't do the pledge to the Bible. It's dumb. I do do the pledge to the Christian flag after we do the pledge to the American flag. The parents around here like it. I usually take pieces of it apart and have the kids to writing prompts on them and discuss them, so it's not just the rote group of words they're repeating. And some days we don't get to them. And the kids are always, "OH NOES WE FORGOT" because they love routine. And I just remind them that we're all still alive anyway. hahaha

Did both for six years and that was enough for me.

RE: Christian pledges
We still have to do it during AWANA, plus a pledge to the AWANA flag in addition to the Christian flag and Bible. It isn't really a big deal and it seems like the teachers and helpers know it. We just do it for the kids because they feel pretty important doing it I guess. They still get excited when it's their turn to present colors, and why would we take that joy away from them?

RE: Christian pledges
I never minded the pledge to the American flag and I was OK with the pledge to the Bible. I was uncomfortable with the pledge to the Christian flag. It just seemed an unlikely and artificial rallying point when all my life Christ Himself was stressed as the One Whom we were to revere (not saying that pledging the Christian flag means you don't revere Christ! It just seemed weird to have a tangible CLOTH to pledge to when our church even looked askance on choir robes lest we be considered liturgical or overly formal.)
I SUPER disliked the pledge to the AWANA flag. My childhood church didn't have AWANAs and I first learned of it at BJU. After I married, I attended churches that did, but I was not significantly sold on the program to be comfortable pledging to its flag. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

RE: Christian pledges
I don't even remember the pledge to the AWANA flag. I guess once a week wasn't enough to ingrain in my being like the others. hahaha

RE: Christian pledges
I used to lead the pledges at our church's AWANA. We didn't do the Xtian flag or Bible ones, both of which creep me out a bit. The AWANA pledge and the American flag pledge have become a bit like the BJU creed to me; I can say them without engaging my brain or caring much about what's coming out of my mouth.

RE: Christian pledges
It's not enough to do it to the Christian flag and Bible. Now there is a Baptist flag.
I pledge allegiance to the Baptist flag And to the faith once delivered unto the saints I will ever remain faithful to the tie that binds us together The Book, the Blood, and the Blessed Hope of our Lord's soon coming. |
