RE: Christian pledges
At my Grandmother's Church's VBS, the always did pledges to the Flag, Bible and Christian Flag.

It makes me uncomfortable now and is one of the reasons I won't participate in VBS any more.

"Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving."

RE: Christian pledges
i pledge allegiance to the awana flag
which stands for the awana clubs
whose goal is to reach boys and girls
with the gospel of christ
and train them to serve him.

oh my, the memories...

RE: Christian pledges
In fundy school we did pledges to the flags and Bible about once a week. I'm personally not a huge fan of pledges.

My churches did Patch the Pirate, so I don't know very much about AWANA. Thus, we never did that pledge.

RE: Christian pledges
I did Awana from kindergarten thru 8th grade. I can still sing the old Sparkies song but couldn't remember the pledge. Smile

My daughter was invited by a friend to go to Awana. It was fine for her to visit but the first little booklet turned me off to it. The first 2 sections were the plan of salvation. Nothing wrong with that, but it felt a whole lot like forced indoctrination.

The way it always was, is no longer good enough. You make me want to be brave. - Nichole Nordeman

I for some reason take pledges to be just words. And words are worth very little.
I know of people who have died for their ideologies, countries, and flags, and I might too. But my reciting a precanned speech about it changes absolutely nothing.

RE: Christian pledges
That's exactly why it annoys me. I hate the idea of spewing a precanned speech when it means nothing to you.
