Worse yet, why do a lot of televangelists even use the medium if only to scream about how immoral it is?! By their logic, if it's so immoral, they should get off of it and stick to radio and books and CDs, as those are entirely different animals. |

Why then do so many fundies keep up with the news? they show wickedness on there all the time, dont hear no sermons on that! It's not for the news. The Fundies are watching the same shows everyone else is. Only they will say it is "because, this way we can keep up with what is on in order to know what to preach against" I didn't have a t.v. and the preacher would talk about a show that I had no clue about. Oh! and don't forget that they can watch their favorite Andy Griffith show reruns. With the town drunk who lets himself in and out of the cell...ha ha, it's funny if it's Andy, but if it's any other show, it's just plain drunkard's sin right? |

RE: Setting your eyes before evil?
I was always "confused" as a fundy child b/c movie theaters were, of course, evil b/c even though you might attend to see Benji or something nice, the theater also made profits off of R rated movies. I never understood the logic of banning the movies because the same people could go spend money at a gas station or grocery store that sold alcohol or evil lottery tickets or something else as sinful.
It's the same with tv. TV is okay as long as it's THEIR shows. And the lines blur.......my evil fundy sister-in-law lets her kids watch The Wizard of Oz but Harry Potter is completely off-limits. And most fundies allow "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" but shun other similar programs that are more modernly made. Again, I think the fundies powers-that-be have a "Wheel of Rules" that they spin. Any new-fangled idea or gadget or clothing is placed on the wheel ready to be banned. |

I never understood the logic of banning the movies because the same people could go spend money at a gas station or grocery store that sold alcohol or evil lottery tickets or something else as sinful. From what I was taught, going to the movie theater was banned because people might see you go into the theater but wouldn't know if you were going to see something rated G or rated R. So of course, they might think the worst, and we wouldn't want to either 1. offend a weaker brother, or 2. be a bad testimony to an unsaved person. But in the 80's when VCRs came out, the standard didn't keep up with the technology, and people were free to watch all the same movies at home even though if you apply the same logic, people might see you go into Blockbuster and not know what you rented, and of course assume the worst. The other double standard that developed was that IMAX theaters started to pop up then too, and where I lived, were usually at museums and showed nature/science documentaries. Those were OK to attend. Then over time, feature films began to be shown there, and somehow going to see "The Dark Knight" at the regular 16-plex was forbidden, but seeing at the IMAX was fine. Whatever.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love. ~ Ephesians 4:2 (NLT) |
